80 ton load= 160,000#... haven't watched the vid yet but it seems like a large and heavy load that would have police, escorts, and a whole lot of flashing lights. The guys that move Big loads get paid big bucks, because one small problem (a broken kingpin) can be a huge issue fast.

No I don't buy that the 5th wheel wasn't closed on the pin to start with. Too much weight for that the smallest hill would have caused the trailer to slide off.

First off I dont know what company that had this accident but as someone who hauls oversize I can tell you this a freak accident and a complete mechanical failure. Where the trailer became seperated is where it would come apart when loading or unloading so the 5th wheel has nothing to do with it. There is usually 2 or more "locks" when raising the deck off the ground and another when locking the deck into ride postion. So to me who knows these trailers it has to be mechanical failure and nothing else. Ive have shown most of my co-workers this video and all we agree it wasnt soemthing that was forgot or messed with but just a failure of the trailer.

With saying that its not out of the question that something was worn out or broken on trailer before hand becuase of the weight that these trailers haul beat the crap out of thing real fast.

Also I personally believe that when you haul something that heavy it doesnt matter how many chains you have on it that if something happens like this accident nothings going hold the load. I also tend to over chain because it makes me feel better plus Mr. DOT is more likely not to bother you.:biggrin_25525:

I dont personally pull the superload trailer(thats what those big trailers are called) but I have esorted them more times than I can count. I will stick with my normal lowboy and tool around sonewhere between 95k and 125k:biggrin_25525:

I think that 50 mill price tag is to replace the whole bridge. From what I can see there isnt any beam damage so all they need to do is jack up the bridge and build new supports(pillars). It will cost more than anyone of us could afford to pay.

WOW, now that bridge is done for. I bet the people affected by that detour are NOT going to be happy with truckers for quite some time.
