Scroll down to transportation and there you are. There are lots of driving jobs that remain on base ie: hauling water, pump trucks for port o lets, etc. They pay about $1600. a week. Work is 12/7 min 84 hrs week. At least that's what they say. Most trades loaf off quite a bit and they let it go cause of the heat.
Line drivers haul everything. Lots of containers, fuel, etc. Most everything is flatbed. I worked at Diwaniya, Karbala, Najaf, Talil AB, and a little at Al Kut. All south of Baghdad.
All most all otr trucks were Volvo or Mercedes Cabovers. Well equipped #### good /ac. Have a ballistic blanket that slides like a shower rod around cab interior. Kind of like another pp vest. otr drivers were the laziest guys there. They could get away with a lot. But their job could be very dangerous too. A lot of them run beer and booze from up north or Kuwait. They packed a lot of stuff in ice trucks so it wouldn't be found. They would also sell a lot of Dinars or Iraqi money. They could buy 1million Dinar in Kuwait for say 675. American. Sell it at bases for 750. or more. I still have 3 mil. I got mine for 475. Still waiting on it to go up to where I can retire.
If you stay on one base you are very safe regardless of what Katie Koran reports. Downtown Baghdad is pretty bad. Most bases and line drivers too it's 99.5 boredom and .5 sheer terror. You could go 5 months with nothing and then someone shoots a handful of mortars. We called it pop and drop. It is never a sustained barrage. These jerks want no part of the American, Polish, British armies.
In 05' I was on Coalition Base. We had Polish, Bulgarian, Romanian, Ukrainian, Mongolian, Danish troops as well as American. But our favorites were the El Salvadorian troops. Nice guys, but completely bloodthirsty killers in battle. If they were guarding your convoy it was going through. Polish were good too. They have different rules of engagement than US is burdened with. If they said stay 200 meters back they #### sure meant it. And they would fire maybe one burst warning. If people got to close they would cut them in half. I'm sure they killed some innocents , but that is war. You got to look out for your guys first. Our guys have to worry about being prosecuted by Bushy Tail and Harry Reid. But that's another debate.
I still have a friend driving over there. He works out of Talil Air Base in south. He told me last week that the only place he really hates is Basra. British have let Fat Boy Al Sadr's people run crazy. They have pulled out of city altogether. But he also said that it is much better further north. Goes to Spicher AB near Tikrit twice monthly and it had been pretty quiet. He makes about $10,000 -!2,000 a month. KBR is hiring a lot of Bosnians and others if they can. They pay people from each country a different wage and the cheaper the better is their motto. It bites them on the butt a lot, but they don't seem to give a rip.
Any way , you can make a lot of money but work is very boring. Home is a long ways off also. We need to start a war in Mexico. Could fly home for R & R every week.
Oh well I 've rambled long enough. Botton line-KBR has a lot of good people working for them. Also have a bunch in Supervisor roles that suck. They can make your life hard and some are very vindictive. But there is a lot of money to be made if you are willing. If I were in my 20's I'd be there until it runs out. Just like Alaskan pipeline. You can put away a big nest egg.

 

Tag the video you posted was a complete cluster@%#!. These poor guys had a new American reserve unit escorting them. They were not even supposed to be going out cause the comacheros were bad that day. I don't remember the whole story , but someone sent e-mail or call and some some else didn't get or interpret right. Anyway these poor shmucks make a wrong turn and wind up in a meat grinder. And the soldiers hauled butt and left them. Them, I would prosecute the Hell out of . Any way he was lucky the calvary showed up. A helicopter saved his bacon just in time. I don't know how they got so screwed up. You have a pre-convoy briefing and are in radio contact with the military vehicles. I don't know why one of the drivers didn't tell them they were going the wrong way. These guys know their routes and it is still hard for me to watch the whole bunch go down a dead end like that. Oh well , that's just like a plane wreck. It's usually a string of little things not one big one that bring them down. I think that video is a couple years old. Could be wrong. But it is a war zone and you got to know going in that stuff like this is possible if unlikely.

I retired from the Marine Corps about 18 months ago and currently work for one of the big 3 security companies you have heard so much about in the news. Saving money to buy a truck and drive with my brothers company. He has been hounding me for several years now to come and join him. Hopefully by August I will be finished.
This month has actually been pretty calm in the Baghdad area. Of course you know that can change at any time.

 

When I was in Diwaniya Camp Echo we had a Aegis office. They were mostly Brits w/ a few French. Great guys. Had a monitoring office connected to all their Landrovers. I remember I was there the day they bombed London trains. Went over to tell them sorry. They all said now we know a little about how 9/11 was for us. Also had some S Africans called Erines I think. They kept to themselves. A lot of Blackwater guys would stop and eat at DEFAC. they were all good guys. Pisses me off to see these reporters badmouth em' and take HCN's version of what happened. can a student fresh out of truck driving school get any work over there? Im taking the 5 month class at allstate and I graduate december 13th.. I was told to check www.liersiglar.com but that website doesnt exist and google didnt come up with any matches

 

I believe the requirement is at least 2 years experience.
