Thank you everyone for your thoughts/ opinions on this. I really thought of being trained/ mentored by a woman. I heard that there are some really good trainers/ mentors that are men.

Do you prefer coke over pepsi. Do you use AT&T over Verizon. When you go out for a burger do you use McDonalds or Burger KIng. Do you like one pizza joint over another. The choice of a trainer is just like this. It is what you are comfortable with because there is no right answer. I know several women that train. They train both men and women and because they smoke will be ok with you if you smoke. I also know many male trainers that train women. They do a wonderful job and the women get trained the right way just like the men do. There are bad trainers out there both male and female.

As far as I know, all trainers at the big name carriers go through a sexual harassment class. Trainers like drivers come in all different shapes and sizes. The biggest problem with that part of this profession is drivers male or female are qualified as trainers with not enough experience themselves. They also need to have a more extensive training curriculum to train trainers because some drivers are good drivers but that doesn't mean they have what it takes to be a good trainer. Choose where you train at wisely. Inquire as to what kind of training the trainer has received. Insist on seeing the training record of the trainer that will train you before you meet this person. Make sure that they didn't just start yesterday. Make sure that you set personal boundaries with whoever is going to train you and if that trainer breaks those boundaries it's time to ask for another trainer. If they are sexual boundaries, remove yourself from that truck immediately and get help. Make sure that they have a clear understanding of why you are there in the first place. You see, the attraction for many drivers in becoming trainers is that they are promised more money by getting paid for the miles that you the student drives while you get paid a flat salary per week. The problem with that concept is students are not professional drivers nor will they be during the short time that they are on that truck with a trainer. I used to tell my students(90's) that when you are first qualified as a solo driver that means that you now have a license to learn. That goes more so for a student fresh out of school. When I was a trainer I trained all kinds and all ages. I've had a good looking woman or 2 on my truck but I took pride in presenting myself as a professional trainer and that was it. These girls were there to learn and they didn't need me pressuring them with ulterior motives. That would be selfish thinking.
