Is it even possible to get a job if someone goes to their own CDL school?

I just finished cdl school last Friday. It was a 4 week private school and we had a total of 5 recruiters. They said there were usually more. They started coming in on the second week. There was a student that said he had 5 felony drug convictions that were seven years old. He ended up going to work as a driver for the Oregon liqueur commission. I still cant figure that one out. There was also a girl that came in the last week that was from the previous class. She had failed her backing in her class. She tested with us and failed again. She said she was pre-hired with a not so mega carrier if she could pass backing and get a license. You will easily be hired.

OP has it backwards. Going to a CC and paying for your own CDL training is the best option if your time and finances allow you to do so. As someone else said, the mega carriers all love to get you locked in for a year at low per mile rates... Often while they try to cram a fleece-purchase down your throat...

Pay out of pocket and get trained right, then you can choose a company and if everything they promised was a scam, give your notice and walk away free and clean to the next job.

As others here have said, you will get recruiters visiting while you are at school. Ask the school who usually comes around. Take that list of companies and do research on them.

When I was going through a private school, we had Schneider, Maines and two or three others come through. (I missed the others because I was doing an abbreviated Road-Test Prep version of the course and wasn't there those days.)

They want bodies and the bodies are there at the school. If you do your research ahead of time you can apply with the ones you are willing to work for and maybe get hired on before you finish school. If you don't like the options presented, hustle yourself out to every place with trucks and apply for a job whether they are advertising for drivers or not.

Maybe especially if they are not... I got hired on by a company that wasn't advertising for drivers, they just had a vacancy come up and chose between me and another guy who had already applied when the vacancy occurred.

As to your history, the misdemeanor from the Clinton administration is not going to be an issue. If you have a good work history and driving record you are in the top half (if not higher) of the candidate pool. You are also not a kid, so there will be an assumption that you will be responsible (Accurate, or not...).

Do your research, make a plan, make contingencies and execute. Everyone on this board was once a non-driver. There are plenty of paths to choose from to get driving, find one that fits you and take it.

I attended a private school and got my CDL. We had several recruiters come visit us.I chose one company I was interested in and set up an interview on the same day I graduated. I received my diploma at 11 am had an interview at 1pm,drug test and road test. Was hired the next day and was with a trainer the day after.Honest to God truth !
