That isn't against any rules. EOE only applies for things that overpaid former lawyers say it applies for. The distance one lives from a terminal or drop yard is not one of them.

i think now, (if i read the story correctly), that due to the Tracy Morgan crash, and subsequent death, Wally-World is now requiring drivers to live closer to the d/c centers..?????

anyone else read that, after the pay off to Tracey and the driver's on going legal troubles..???

If you have no desire to take your home time in GA or any specific area, why would they care?.

Who knows? Maybe they have tried it before and had people that said they didn’t want home time but after hiring on they did and it became a problem.

There are probably various reasons for it but the bottom line is they do not have to hire you out of area if they don’t want to so there is little point in trying to figure out what any one companies reasons are for defining their hiring area are on here.

That would make sense. But in the case of that incident I have to wonder. Was there NO other DC between GA and NJ that driver could have went to?

IMHO---its their truck its their company it is their rules--if they said they wont hire you due to skin color-religion-sex etc--THOSE are EOE violations--requiring you live close enough to meet the requirement of leaving THEIR TRUCK AT THEIR YARD when you aren't working is a completely legal policy--which also IMHO makes perfect sence--This was typical in this buisness for many many years--owners wanted their equipment HOME when it wasn't working--to insure the truck got into the shop in a timely fashion and to keep vehicle usage down to work only...and not for someone to use as a personal vehicle when they were home...Personally I think it is how all companies should still operate...eliminates alot of problems..not the least of which..the amount of drivers who feel it is perfectly legitimate to get angry--quit and refuse to return the truck--which happens daily to the larger carriers w/out residency requirements...and I for one after 30+years of being an O/O love gettin home parkin the truck at the yard--writting up any issues and washin my hands of it.....;)

I can understand wanting the truck back at their yard when not being used for work, makes perfect sense to me. Not really sure what the address on my license has to do with any such company requirements though.

Just a hypothetical here, but I wonder if they would refuse to hire a shop mechanic or dispatcher based on their address?. I have never had a job, truck driving or otherwise, where the employer needed to know how far away I lived from their facility so maybe that is why I am having a hard time accepting it.
