The problem with 12V ciggarette lighter plugs is the poor connection, which causes heat.

Check out Remote Control Car Battery connectors. They are designed for high amperage use. Replace the plug socket and the plug on the fridge.

Those are "deans" plugs. One of the top five best. Some of the RC connectors are not good, like "Tamiya" connectors.

These are also very good, are colored for polarity distinction, and can be connected in opposite directions making it impossible to connect in the wrong polarity.

Also, solder the wire onto the connector, do not rely on the physical crimp connection.

I've got mine on the passenger seat. It won't fit anywhere else. My freezer is at the end of my bed. Bleeping truck storage is too small.

I keep the seat all the way down, so my view out the window and of my mirror is not blocked. Never have I had any complaints about it. I keep it turned so the door faces the driver seat, and it vents out the back. It is not strapped in. I understand if I roll the truck it will hit me in the head. Life is full of risks.

I would put it somewhere else, but it won't fit in the "fridge" cabinet, and there is no other space for it. Unless I stick it on my bed next to my freezer, and then there wouldn't be room for my feet.

I would be concerned about it becoming a projectile if yo get in a accident and getting seriously injured by it or even killed.

I agree, that is the problem. Here is my fix made from a piece of wire. I have the socket wired to a spare fuse in the fuse box.

I just drink my water at cab temperature, its healthier that way. As far as food, i don't want the mess in my truck so i stick to eating cold stuff from a can or dried goods, anything else will just breed bacteria. So my recommemdation is to toss the 40qt cooler into the nearest dumpster and leave the refrigerators in the dorms.

Old thread, but an interesting topic. Many years ago a driver I worked with actually got the shop to remove that seat. This way he could see over it once he installed the unit and it was also out of the way. There is no rule that I know of that mandates a CMV to have a right seat!
