Is it ok to buy a truck with high miles? Need some advice!

Is that $7,000 also needed for your plates and insurance or do you have other money set aside for that. I have always thought that the truck is the last piece of the puzzle. Althought you can't your insurance and things until you have a truck these take much longer to do so start that process first so you can get a sense of what it will all cost you then you will know what you have left for the truck and your initial repairs and expenses.

I would think it would be in your best interests to save up some more money. Used trucks can provide great value, however some require too much upfront maintenance to make them worth it. If you are wanting to become and O/O sooner rather than later have you looked at what type of financing you might be able to get. Even just getting $10-20 will allow you to buy a truck with less miles or perhaps its rebuild already done.

I would say that the most stressful part when you start out on your own will be the first few months. Firstly you are now responsible for a lot more now (finding loads, invoicing etc.) And on top of all of that it may be 6-8 weeks before you see your first payment however you have racked up a lot just in fuel bills and other expenses that all demand to be paid much quicker than you do.

Does the freight around Indy tend to drop off over the winter? If it does I would be best to wait for spring to start all of this.

 

take as little money as possible finance a truck put rest in bank for repairs.start up if you go on your own will be bout 2000-3000 down ins 1500- 2000 plates auth around 500,550 road use,30 month for lady do fuel taxes.the fuel taxes are nill might have missed some, also use other peoples money for fuel, brokers.you can make money,remember everything is a rite off and you will need as many as possible,if you dont want to buy trailer find small co who will do power only just DONT work for cpm.

 

i had the same problem

i wound up finding a guy with a small company who wanted to get rid of his trucks (too much liability, drivers idling too much, etc)

with less than what you have, i started driving for him and putting money into the truck, and eventually the truck and trailer were mine

 

my intuition tells me to wait another year and i'll be in better shape to make this happen....

Again that wasn't the question he was asking. It has nothing to do weather he can or can't run a buisness it just sounds like a personal attack.

 

I bought a truck for 21k 576k miles nothing wrong with it other than horrible mpg but it pays the bills. Just gotta look around for a truck. I'd try to get a freightliner with a detroit in the 600k range. I'd get a loan or find a buy here pay here outfit

There is a guy on here selling a freightliner classic with a Detroit for 12k seemed like a good deal if I was buying a truck I would look for something in the late 90s to early 2000s engines better and not all that emissions crap plus the trucks look better and I would like for a Detroit ddec 3 or 4 best fuel mileage and cheapest to fix just my opinion
