You have to find a GF who's hooked on gaming like you are. They exist,my oldest son found one, most of their time together is spent gaming. They do have a limited circle of friends that also are geeky nerds. He doesn't have to spend much money on her as she is content to spend hours in his room playing games. They both work fulltime jobs so they are not totally addicted;he does know a guy that got thrown out of his parents house because he refused to work or go to school;just spend all of his waking hours gaming.

Yeah I was a hardcore videogame addict for decades until every game they make now are zombie first person shooters. I miss when games brought you to another reality where you forgot about life. I am new and do not see anything wrong with your question. I only need to return home to cut my grass and check my mail.

My sister and her fiance, both work full time and met each other while playing WoW. (World of Warcraft) As I'm sure you know, but for the benefit of the board (your welcome) RPG games (roll playing game) are played with people online from all over the world. So even while you're out you can chat on mic, connect and play with your GF. The only trouble I see may be the time difference. My sister and fiance have friends who have met playing the game, got married and have a baby. (more than one couple) So it is possible to be a gamer, work and have a life / GF. You may find your priorities change after meeting someone. You can handle that right? :biggrin_25522:

Hey Albert don't listen to their negativety. I have been a computer programmer for 12 years and in the first six years when I kept making more and more money and was hooked on Quake 3 and Counterstrike Source on my high end PC at the time, I actually stayed home for six years and didn't talk to anyone but my online friends via email and I still felt social. I bet you can do it and perhaps you and I can be friends. The social life is overrated just a bunch of fake people making small talk and spending all of their money to be accepted in society.

Just because you brand it as being "social" doesn't mean it's actually social. I'm sure Jeffrey Dahmer felt like he was social.

Honestly, I'm a pretty average person... I go out for drinks with friends, I have an active dating life, I work a public service job where I have to interact with many people daily(most of which are pissed cause i'm writing them tickets...lol) but I also have been an avid gamer most of my life.

The friends I made through online gaming are some of the closest friends I have, many of which I went 5+ years before meeting. They know every aspect of who I am and I trust them completely. With advancement of technology to include VOIP communication and even video chat(though rarely used in gaming) you honestly are socializing with people. Infact, the only way my best friend from high school and I can even interact and spend any time socializing is through online gaming because he is stationed across the country on a destroyer with the US navy. While I think only communicating with people online doesn't teach you all of the skills you need to be truly social I do believe that those people you meet and interact with are just a close to you as friends you go out drinking with...

As for going over the road for months(or years) at a time I honestly don't see a problem with doing that if you have no family or obligations keeping you home. For those who say you have to get away from the truck keep in mind that he probably isn't referring to driving for a year without any days off but probably just taking time off where ever he ends up or wants to and using his truck as his home. I had honestly considered doing the same thing but my plans got changed before I had a chance.

I have friend who's a O/O bedbug haulers, the one goes out from April 15th til Oct. 15th. He then takes the rest of the year off then comes back in early Jan. and does local and specialty hauls for the company. Back in the 80's, friend of mine his father would go out for 4 months at a time, then home for 3 weeks, then back out for 4 months. Hmmm, no wonder his folks were divorced and he lived with with adopted parents.

Seriously, at the minimum I would get a dog to keep me company to be out that long, I suspect you might go stir crazy otherwise.
