    Thanks for the heads up.
The comments pretty much state the obvious: Is a study really needed?
Hopefully that will get by and then we can work on the 30 minute break BS.

A Pilot study???? It WAS the norm up until a few years ago - the 5/5 split was the bomb for my log book! Man, I hope they allow it again industry wide.
Thanks for the post, wasn't aware they were considering reverting the rule.

Ok so you drive for 5 hours then be able to rest for 5 hours? However will your time freeze or does the clock continue to tick away.

That is the whole point of the 'split' it stops the 14 hour clock until you've completed the sleep cycle(either 8 or 9 as it sits now.)

Cool, I don't do splits, so I didn't really understand just how it works.

I've only done it a couple of times with the 8/2 I used to do it quite a bit when you could log 5/5.

I've done back to back to back 8/2 splits. It's very taxing. So tired I couldn't sleep. Not a good feeling. It's a great tool, but dispatch also expects them of me now and consistently tries to dispatch loads in which I'll need to do one if I take them.

Half the driver's doing split-sleeper don't understand it either. It's a good way to really generate a BIG violation if you don't know what you are doing. Many occasional split-sleeper drivers use up all of their available drive time then think they can take a short sleeper period and drive some more. You have to stop driving before drive hours are gone.

I have been using the split, but I don't understand how it works, so when my electronic logs tell me how many hours I have left after taking my break, I don't know what I'm going to get. I would like to be able to understand it to the point where I know how many hours I will get at the end of my break so it's not a guessing game.
