Tankers are easier to back up. The tandems are set at the rear so there is no rear end swing and they normally have a shorter wheelbase. Don't let the idea of Hazmat scare you off. It's not hard to learn. The best money in running tanker is Hazmat.
Is there a lot of tight backing with Hazmat tankers?

If you put as much effort and thought into learning to back as you seem to into how to avoid it you'll be a pro in no time.
It's part of the job, don't run from it.DC818, Heathar, AtticusRoad and 2 others Thank this. -

I actually found it easier with my tandems sucked up. Yea theirs tail swing but as long as you rember that I found it easier. Takes less room to boot.

Tankers might be easier to back at the truck stop but some of the plants we go into are nothing but nightmarish.

Tanker trailers usually 45 or 48feet all together, so yeah backing is very rare BUT ot will be a shipper who will ask you to back inside a building to get loaded...
So yeah you have to know how to back up either way, its just will be more rarely practice then in dry van or reefer -
