    $10 isn't bad, it's horrible. I get $23 and think that's a joke too.

What is the Melton CPM pay??? I'm on % pay and this week I made .495 CPM ON THE HUB!! Does a melton driver make that? Not last time I looked... I have also grossed just over 47K so far this year and this is my first year back in trucking since I got out of the military last September. I guess I work for cheap though........

Theres a reason at truck stops you dont see too many 500 pound buffet buster supertruckers waddle their way out to a flatbed rig.

My point exactly. Also talking about working for cheap, I was in the Marine Corp for 4 years and I was a grunt. Cheap work? I made 1100 dollars a month for the first year I was in and there is no work laws in the Military.(I worked many many many 24+ hour days) Do the hourly pay for that and it comes out to less then 2 bucks an hour.

I worked for TMC for a long time. Almost 17 years. Yes, the tarp pay is a tad low, and yes, TMC does collect 100 bucks or more for tarping. I used to wonder why they couldn't share more of that with the drivers. Till I met a whole bunch of guys who had destroyed, through stupidity and negligence, several sets of tarps. Some in as little as a year had destroyed that many. Many of the guys there whining about the low tarp pay wouldn't even work there anymore if it was my choice, for some of the damage they had done to tarps, equipment, and loads.

Thank you all for the responses thus far. I think even though the tarp pay is low I would still go with TMC if they will have me. I will finish school this week and would prefer to have a job with a little workout involved. I'm not afraid of the cold either. I spent two years in Iceland when I was in the Navy and it's not so bad as long as you dress for the weather.

What kind of Pete do they give to students?

The new drivers or apprentice as they say. You get a 379 pete short hood with a 63 inch sleeper. You might get a 387 pete with like a 70 some inch sleeper but they all have 475 cats and 13 speeds loaded up with leather and gauges and stuff. Not like the truck at a cdl school with 4 gauges and a few basic swithes.

That is why they only pay $10 bucks to tarp because the other $90 they bill the customer goes to buying more chrome.

Most flatbed companies tell their drivers that the tarping pay is all "figured into the load".
