Nothing replaces good education, good decision making and good enforcement. These speed limiters are just a way to keep enforcement costs affordable. Just like the HOS rules and the EOBR they have nothing to do with safety. The "safety" argument is just another big lie. Limiters cannot work unless there is a Nationwide Maximum Speed Limit in place and all vehicles are set to that number.

The real solution is to get rid of "ambulance chasing attorneys" and to understand there are no guarantees in life. Things happen both good and bad, it's called "living your life"..........make the most of the time you have been granted here........the clock is ticking on all of us!!!

If I was a betting man I'd say that even if the truck was going 7 miles under the speed limit that the kid would still be dead. That man has vengeance on his mind in the name of safety. Im an owner operator and I usually drive 60 and even I believe having all trucks governed is just plain stupid. Lets govern all vehicles to 1 mph and put a rubber surrounding on them! I was watching some videos from some of the members from P.A.T.T. last night. People that are clueless doing a dang good job of forcing their vengeance on us. One of them said that trucking companies didn't pay for these roads, that the American tax payers paid for these roads. As an owner of a one truck company and an American tax payer I pay WAY more in taxes as a trucking company than I do as an American tax payer. These people that are pushing for these laws are the same idiots driving these 4 wheelers that are cutting trucks off and have no idea. Someone that's never drove a truck can't really have educated thoughts on trucking regulation. I came from a trucking family and use to think that trucking was sooo easy(and had other thoughts about trucking) but I had no idea even though I was around it as a kid. The same as these jack #####!

Among those pushing for these regulations are ATA member carriers and they pay way more taxes than you . Money talks

Better outlaw cruise control and inattention also since they were the main cause. 7 mph slower and the son would most likely have still been killed.

My point was he basically said trucks don't deserve to be on the roads as they didn't help pay for them.

Question is. What are you willing to do about it? I mean really, what are any of you willing to do about it. Complain more! I mean no disrespect to anyone but the truth of the matter is that we are all to blame for this. The new HOS, OBRD and now-> what we all knew was coming, a push to govern all trucks. When will enough be enough? When will drivers stop grinning while they are being screwed left right and side ways and stand up for themselves!

It's not going to get any better, they are not going to be fair about anything. They do nothing for safety and they do nothing for the benefit of the drivers, only to benefit those who make money from our blood sweat and tears! The government and trucking companies will only make it harder for people like you and me to feed those that we love because they don't give a flip about truckers and they never have. The only thing they care about is the money they make off of us and nothing else!

We could easily change all of this is we would just stand together. What are they going to do? Arrest all 3.5 million of us! We are one of the largest work forces in this country and we could make them change the rules and regulations for our benefit. When you think about it, WE run this nation, WE haul everything at one point or the other that people us in their daily lives and WE are the life line that makes the wheels of this nation turn. It would not take a week shut down, just a day or two would be enough to show the powers that be that we have HAD IT with being taking advantage of over and over!!

The time for talk has long since past. It's time to stand up for ourselves now or else we will have no right to complain about anything!

    ...rant over, God bless.

Well, I shut down the first week of July out of protest (more to take care of some other stuff I wanted to get done) of the new HOS. I suggested that this week would be the best opportunity for everyone to take the week off. It was a holiday week anyway, so productivity would be down for most folks. It was the most important holiday in America from a national standpoint. Just seemed like the best time for anyone with a mind to do so could shut down. I brought it up several times, in several threads here and elsewhere. Really got no takers. Well, Child of God, I did what you suggested. No one followed. But since you took to time to say what you did, did you also shut down for the 1st week of July like I did?
