Choices like this really limit a drivers ability to move on when they tire of their current employers nonsense.

Better suck it up, US Express is fading out all of their automatics. Now where will the newbies go?

i think you told us about your friend telling you they are phasing them out, i just want to know why...??

expensive.. to buy...?? (i think probably, given the amount of trucks they buy)

    repairs needed a lot..??

    drivers still screwing them up..??

does your buddy have an reason why..??

No he didn't say. I would imagine they are a lot cheaper to buy and maintain. I heard from mechanics that they really suck to work on and take a lot longer. My buddy did say that they started getting in all the new trucks awhile ago. I am sure as a mega-carrier it will take a few years to wipe them all out of the inventory. Plus you will always have the handful of guys who just won't let go of their trucks! I'll see if I can find out why they are phasing them out. You know how that goes though.

Not trying to be a wisenhimer, but you are a 7 year veteran driver that has applied to a company...and apparently accepted...and you don't know what their pay is? Shouldn't you find that out before you apply? Maybe i'm missing something here. BTW...I love your avatar

They did buy a bunch of 10 speeds, they also bought a bunch of Automatics since. Nobody I have talked to inside the company knows for sure, I have heard many different stories. I have no idea how you can know what is true

That's for sure! You never really know the "real" story unless you are talking to the CEO himself. Even then you will probably get the run around.

ok, plus though, a semi-automatic can easily be converted back to manual....remove top plate with the electronics (servos) drop in a manual shift...maybe just a tad more work/details than what i have been told by my former mechanic, but doable.

i'm 23 and i'll tell you what, just like i have said before here, this problem with people my age isnt a trucking problem its how my generation as whole thinks. instant gratification, no need to put in time and learn things, if the going gets tough then they sit around and cry about how unfair life is. its pathetic, even my own brother is one of them. he's being offered an apprenticeship with our uncle who is a plumber, and he's refused. my boss offered him a job at my work come april if he can get a class B cdl, i told him i'd teach him, and my boss even offered to lend us a truck so he could practice and take the test with. he says to me "oh awesome! yeah i'll do that. wait, isnt a CDL like, a big commitment? its hard to pass the test right? i dont know. i'll think about it". at first i thought he was just not into plumbing but its the time you need to put in that he's afraid of, and that became obvious to me.

anyway not to get too stuck on myself here, like i said, this problem is a generational thing and the majority of people my age flat out SUCK.
