Yeah, I remember the .44 per mile hiring blitz in 2000. Turns out they had a bit of a credibility problem when all those drivers jumped on-board only to find that the miles were few and far between. Sounded good, slick recruiting displays, a lot of glad handing and smiles followed by a rectal stretch of biblical proportions. No thanks.

Can someone help me out here? I read nothing but terrible posts about this company.

I drive for jb hunt and honestly I am satisfied. Is there really something better out there that I just do not know about? I admit that all I can compare jb hunt to is my six months with cr england where I got my cdl a couple years ago, maybe that is why I am happy with them.

I am on a dedicated account based out of Dallas delivering tires to mostly walmarts, we only deliver to the surrounding southern states. I make 43 cents a mile plus stops and unloading pay, averages about $900-$1200 a week. I am happy doing this job, I get at least 34 hours at home each weekend, never have to wait more than a few minutes at each receiver, and am always running. There is never any "wait for a load" time because of the way things are set up. Never have to deal with Yankee states. Average 10-14 hours off each night.
The faster you go at this job the faster you get another load and the more money you make.

Yes I admit with the original poster that the camera thing with its collision mitigation thing is annoying. If a car jumps in front of me too close it will instantly send a report to the company and I have to explain it to the route planner when I get back to the office. It does not ever cause me any real disruption at least.

Am I just naive and being taken advantage of? Are there really jobs five times better than this and I am being robbed blind?

    If you are happy, great.
If others do not like working for JB, let them find another job.

    Different strokes for different folks.

I have to disagree. Had a pal who ran nothing but local then went OTR...well dedicated but still to Arizona and back (Ohio) each week and he did not have to go to a crap company. That company required five years experience.

Then that was a good thing for him.

But what you have there was the exception rather than the norm. It almost never works out that way for many experienced drivers.

Maybe also it depends on where one lives.

    That's true too.

I've suspected for years that the training carriers, including but by no means whatseoever limited to the detestable JB Hunt, make more money off their CDL mills than they do moving freight. Their turnover rates are stratospheric for a reason.

And veterans that decide to run OTR only to land somewhere and be subjected to this sort of treatment only goes to sustain that theory. They want that 5000 bucks or whatever it's up to now written into a contract so if you renege in it for whatever reason they can hound you for that money until the day you die.

Anyone that can make it into the industry by NOT having to go this route and thumbing their nose at the training carriers do us ALL a favor by letting them know they are not as important as they want to believe.

Funny, did the same to me back then, but boy did they sure make that local job seem awesome. Had even quit my job, only to find out "that position has been filled, we'll set you up otr for 6 months until a spot opens up again".
