The training companies don't charge $4,000-$5,000 for a couple weeks of training? That is not income? Is just a coincidence that the GI bill allows about $5,000 for technical training? Really, 5K for just a couple weeks of training when most other trades provide you with a couple years of school? There is not a scam going on here? We all know how well these drivers get trained don't we?
If you are referring to the tax break for hiring certain workers that is very real also. Ask a tax attorney about the details, I am a truck driver. It appears you have not noticed the form that employers had out in their job application that asks, your race, gender, nationality, national origin, unemployment statis, welfare eligibility, wick eligibility ect.... with the disclaimer at the bottom stating 'answering these questions will not reflect on your application.' This 'optional' document is for the tax incentive given to these companies to hire what would be considered disadvantaged workers. If you did not fill it out yourself rest assured your company did it for you, to their advantage of course. They are not about to leave any money on the table.
I don't have a clue what proof you really need of that? Seems like common knowledge to me. If you need more call up some training companies and see what they charge?
Go hire a tax attorney to explain how that form works? Any further explaination is beyond the pay grade of this forum.
Just a few adds on Craigs list

Most of these companies lease all these trucks and rotate them out every four years or so. They do not get all called in at once but the majority of them go back in January, February, and March. Since it is not the exact same trucks that were new in the fleet that year, most people do not notice the fleet reduction. But it is there. Sometimes the trucks are in the terminals, sometimes in a dealers parking lot, sometimes manufactures lot, sometimes some drop yard in the desert. Often they clog up the lot at third party truck dealer like arrow but there are others.
The season surge of retail is reported at 20-30%, with business in the core of truckloads customers surging around 50%. Every retail product is a truckload customer at least twice: once to depot, once from depot to store. Therefore, the surge in truckload is approximately twice that of retail itself. Also, most of retails business in the winter is overstock from Christmas not from truck; enhancing the depression of truck services. In addition, truckload picks up the surge for dedicated fleets like costco, walmart, and grocery. In addition, truckload picks up the seasonal surge for LTL like, ups, fedex, or any of the like. It could be conservatively estimated that truckload surges 80-90%.
No driver is going to stay a job with a 20-30% reduction of work let alone 80-90%. Truckload must get rid of masses of drivers to prevent the whole lot of them from leaving or unionizing. The cheapest way of doing that if firing them with trumped up charges of safety or insubordination. So, the log violation that happened in August, and was not a issue in August, September, October, November, or December, is now just cause for dismissal in January.RAGIN CAJUN Thanks this. -

1700 + 7300 = 9000 from U.S. Expresses website. "Flood" claims 6000. They report 6,142 to the DOT. Who is right? Liers always have a hard time keeping their facts straight.
Chances are they all are it just depends on what time of the year it is like I said.
Their own advertisement supports what I am saying. They even brag about their seasonal surge capacity to shippers.
However, my comments were not directed spacifically about U.S Express, in am talking about all mega-crap companies in general. I am just so glad U.S Express is so open and available to prove my point. -
US express does indeed not have a school anymore. Good thing too because they have crappy drivers.

Most likely had to shut that school down. They do not do so well with experienced drivers.
Probably get kick backs from other CDL schools though.
No wonder they are looking to craigs list for drivers! -
I wonder if their including the trucks from Total, Smith, Arnold & Xpress Global.
