Just some of the stupid things I see

Well..........not everyone. Had a few moments the last few days. Had one guy run out of fuel, right in the middle of the road the other day. Had no idea he was getting low, or so he said and it died right in the middle of the road. How no one hit him I will never know.

Had one pass out in a straight truck and hit a car head on a two lane road. Driver said he blacked out and woke up on top the car. Luckily it didn't kill the guy he hit.

They go in spurts, some weeks are better than others. Had a few suspended drivers, a few false logs, a few junk trucks during the blitz. But all in all most were well maintained. But every year the trucks are taken care of because o the blitz. A month from now, there will be more junk on the road because some companies let it go and some O/O's let it go because of the cost of staying on top of the truck. I know you guys and gals see em in the truck stop and on the highway. Some trucks surprise me, for instance a 2010 Peterbilt I checked last week. Had numerous out of service defects on it dealing with brakes, air bags, and tires. But the 1995 Freightliner FLD that had 3 different colors and mailbox letters had no defects. Some care, some don't and some just try to get by. So I'll see what I find in the coming weeks.

Honestly, talking about the guys running f350 t plate trucks, I used to do that with my cemetery. I had a f350 flatbed and dumptruck both 11,000gvw. I even hauled our backhoe on a 10,000lb trailer with the dumptruck. I never stopped at a scale, my boss had no idea what safety equipment was. I set headstones well over 100mi away and had no clue what a log was. I dunno if it mattered the truck was registered as a personal vehicle rather than company but it seems we were illegal as hell.

I think the worst one was when I took the flatbed to get a load of granite. The big flatbeds couldn't get where we were so we had to meet them (along the tracks behind the paper mill) and transfer the granite from their truck to mine. Well I go to get this load and my boss failed to inform me the load was 9,997lbs. My truck was 7Klbs and gvwr was 11k...when we got loaded I was just under 17k lbs, or just over 50% more than my max gvwr. Now this was back when diesel first got really high ($4.50/gal in our area) and there was a dot officer outside the paper mill rodding tanks looking for dyed fuel. He kept glancing at us. I got loaded and there was a big box truck between us and the dot so I snuck down the alley beside the tracks and got to the shop 4 blocks away safely. About 15 mins later the driver calls my cell laughing saying the dot was over there looking for me. Luckily he didn't think I was worth going after.
