If I were you I would get a second opinion about whether you need to retake the drive test in order to get your Hazmat. I didn't in CA. It's just a written test and fingerprinting.

Yeah, most of those DMV people don't know all the CDL-related stuff. I've gotten bad info more than once when I've called them. The best answer is when they say "I don't know". I'd rather hear that than hear them make #### up.

Keep us posted... I too would be interested in if another driving test is required as that's the first I have heard of it too.

My current job doesn't require any endorsements but I want to get my HazMat as that might actually happen, as opposed to tanker/doubles, with this company.

So I would appreciate you keeping us posted.

Stay Safe and awesome work so far!!!

Thanks man. I will definitely let you guys know when that times comes. It's just weird because I remember reading on the booklet that "bringing a truck in for a drive test it is not required" as it would become a risk on the road (that DMV probably don't want to be responsible for), but maybe what I read was a 'loaded' truck with hazmat inside.

    THIS^^^^

My experience getting my permit and getting all tests taken in the CA system was a nightmare. I did it without going through a school. Took something like 10 visits to the DMV just to get my license changed from WA state and finally get my permit. Wrong information on each visit got me to the point of getting the name of the person that told me, so I could reference them on future visits. Dealing with CDL issues is not their forte.

Would be a shame if I take a 53' and they tell me I didn't have to

It could vary by state, but the only endorsment that I have heard of needing a driving test for is the passager endorsement.

I have never heard of a hazmat driving test. I think maybe somebody may be confusing the driving test you have to pass to get your school bus driver endorsement with hazmat. As far as the endorsements go it is job and company dependent. If your hired with the provision you agree to get hazmat it is your responsibility to do so, and yes a company is within their rights to put a comply date on this and fire you if it is not done. The thing is and I have seen in many situations if you don't get a hazmat sometimes a carrier will punish you in other ways. Things like making you sit for a day or two or making getting hazmat a condition of a sign on bonus. I know a guy that swears he was denied a new tractor because he did not have his hazmat. It was funny that about 6 weeks later he got it and picked up a new KW.
