trust me some of these things are clunkers, the mechanics i talked to yesterday said they cant believe they keep some of them on the road....got cracked frames, wont start half the time, nothing in the cab works right and wont shift smoothly at all....and the clutch is either stiff as #### or needs adjusted, alot of them got over 2 million miles on them now

Cracked frames shouldn't get an inspection sticker. I can't imagine a DOT officer liking them either.

Foregoing the crack frames. Just think for a moment, you could have start 20+ years ago. If you think you've got it bad. I am certain many seasoned vets can tell you stories.

Instead of complaining you should look at the positive side. These tractors should sharpen your inspection skills to where you'll be able to spot everything wrong. You need to find out what is OOS and write up everything that is wrong. You can order from J.J.Keller & Associates Inc a pocketbook on all the items that make a truck OOS. It will make you a better driver. You can also look for the data plate most are on the drivers door and on the edge of the door you'll find all the numbers of the engine and transmission of that tractor GVW and so on.
Then you can take the numbers of the transmission and go on line and find the shifting pattern. You might see a number like RTLO-11610-B. The last number will tell you it's a ten speed and the other data will tell you exactly what you have unless of course someone switched the trannys. Full home page should have the shifting pattern.

    KO1927 Thanks this.

Suck it up...It aint the worst thing that is going to happen to you in your career, If it is that'll be a pretty good career. So what if trucks that you're not going anywhere in are a little junky? learn from the experience. When I first started driving I drove trucks that you'd run away from screaming and I was darned proud to be driving them. I learned stuff during that time that still helps me today.

    Make the best of it!

Now a truck with a cracked frame needs to be wrote up and shut down but all that other stuff can be delt with. You've only had your license a month. You can't drive those trucks as best they can be drove yet but you will learn. Theres much worse running down the road and i've run it.

im really getting used to these different pieces of ####.......i think its really helping me to cuz once i hop in a nice truck it feels like a cadillac and can drive it without even thinking about it

i drive around the yard and practice shifting alot, making unnecessary shifts just for practice.....the yard jockeys and drivers coming thru the yard are probably thinking "what the hell is he doing?" but who cares, im really learning out there
