I use my laptop for GPS as do many people. The closer you have it to your line of vision the better. It's easier to read than the small gps units so you spend less time looking at it and therefore safer. IMO

And what happens when your looking at your laptop (when you should be watching the road) & something happens in front of you to where you need to make an evasive manuveur?

You never take your eyes off the road while driving? Never check the gauges? Never adjust the radio? Never look at which CD you're putting in? Never check your mirrors to see what traffic is behind you? Never look to see that there's no loose bungies, straps, chains or tarps? I use my laptop for GPS and I look at it about as long as it takes to look at any of the gauges, or look in the mirrors, so it's certainly no more of a hazard than any of those things.

Call Don at Dieselboss and get the Ram Mount with the base that they designed.

    http://www.dieselboss.com/stand4.htm

And as of the time when I bought mine was the only place that sold this base.

I love mine, its very adjustable and extremely strong.

I agree to get the flat clips as well.

    Dieselboss Thanks this.

My laptop is mounted over the passenger seat. It is closed unless I am going to a customer I have never been to before. Then I put a few windows on it with the turns I need to make to get to the customer highlighted. I don't run GPS directions on it. It's a supercharged map with built in magnifying glass nothing more nothing less. If I get lost and need to study it I pull over.

    Incorrect.

We design-modified the base, have an extra anti-vibration support leg made in our machine shop, and changed the pole height to IMPROVE on an existing Ram Mount design. We wanted to be able to slide it under the passenger seat without removing any bolts or drilling, or removing the seat altogether to get it in. In addition, we knew that the stresses of a semi-truck (since we are former OTR drivers) would require additional base bracing no matter HOW tough of a mount you put in. Ram even gave it its own part number as a result for us.

We are proud to be a Ram Mount dealer, yes, and we sell and ADAPT many of their mounting products for a variety of gps / laptop / cell phone / netbook / cameras, etc. applications. We believe that there is no better mounting solutions company in the world - let alone one right up the road from us the USA. I don’t know how many “re-sellers” go up and throw around design ideas with Jeff and the boys up in Seattle, but I suppose it’s possible…

No, you won't find it on EBay. But if you want to stop in and throw a burger on the grill, or layover in our lot, or pick up a phone to speak with someone in America who knows how to outfit the unique needs of the OTR driver, feel free to contact us anytime. Right now I think I'll crawl out from under your steer tires though.

No worries at all. For most of them (Fords, Chevy's, etc) we sell them exactly as Ram makes them. Again, they are such great designers there that it is difficult to even find a way to improve. On the heavy truck stuff we find that you can't make things TOO rugged though. :biggrin_2559:
