Hello everyone. My name is Bobby, I'm 48 years old; retired Army; trucker wana-be and I'm wanting to see if it's possible to find someone, who drives locally, who would be willing to train me on say a daily bases. Getting off every night, and not having to live with someone in a small cab during training would be awesome!
    I have a class A CDL - Schooled in 2011
I have Medical ID Card - just renewed
I have about 160 -200 miles of driving experience total - yeah I know!
I have not driven since 2011 - yeah I know!
    Endorsements: X-Tanker, Triples/Doubles, Hazmat
Willing to drive to trainers local area - within reason (don't want to drive to say, Florida and have things not work out right?)
Willing to work dirt cheap in order to get experience; and that's completely open for discussion
Wanting to get 500-1000 miles or 1-2 months under my belt before looking for steady OTR long haul job (any advice on this??)

I'm also very honest and dependable.

My main goal is with this idea is to avoid living with someone, in a small confined space, whom I don't know for 1 to 1 1/2 months. I don't know if I am going to get around this; I know 99.9% of everyone driving a truck has gone through this process, and I may very well have to go through it myself, but I'm willing to put out there what I want; maybe someone will be interested in training me on a daily bases - who knows. Also, I thought about doing a refresher course with the school I attended, but I really just want the OTR experience and not the classroom experience, plus I still run into that company "team training" and living with someone, etc, etc after the refresher course, so...

So, any advice or help with this idea of avoiding any type of long haul team driving/training will be appreciated. Anyone willing to train me I would also be greatly appreciative. Thanks.

If you haven't already make sure you self certify your new medical card with public safety.

Your obstacles is finding someone which is slim and then their insurance company has to approve you. Insurance companies have a lot of weight in this industry and say what a policy holder can and can not do.

Hi Bobby and welcome to the forum and more imporantly thank you for your service. So you don't want to train and be with that trainer 24/7 huh.How far are you from Salt Lake City?Crengland is located there. They are a bad company but if they have day cabs then it may not be too bad.At least you'll be home every night. But still you may have to go otr with a trainer.I don't know of any local companies that train newbies. They require exp and only train for like a day maybe a week tops so you learn how they operate. You should just plan on going out with a trainer, itll go fast and you seem like a nice enough person to get along with.Alot of ppl in this industry feel the same way you do and they end up having an excellent trainer and really get along.

hahaha, that's funny. I've heard a lot of BAD info on C.R.E. too! Didn't think about the insurance issue though and you're probably right. Feudal attempt maybe to get what I want in this regard anyway. Thanks for the reply! Happy holidays!
