I'm really encouraged by following along here. My journey will begin next year, but I'm in a similar position as you starting out.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret here. The OP, Jonesjw, would succeed at ANY Driving School with ANY Company! How do I know that? Just take a look at his attitude and enthusiasm! The majority of people that whine and complain about this or that School or Company are usually their own worse enemy. Jonesjw will succeed in this industry because he WANTS IT. Once you make it past your first year it begins to come together. By the time you hit years 2 and 3, with a clean record, lots of doors will open up and you can make a good living in this industry.

You get bonus points for running over pedestrians.
DoorDash gets a kick out of delivering to trucks.

Awesome Brother! I wish you the best! So far, I can attest and confirm my decision to be a GREAT decision for me and my wife. We are missing each other through the week, but we also understand this is all "temporary". Once I finish training, get more experience and feel safe and efficient; she will be my occupying my passenger seat! We talked the other morning after church. I told her when I think about this small sacrifice (BIG for us) we are making by being apart; I also think about all the men and women out there in our military who suffer through long deployments. They don't have any choice or control to come home, leave their duty station, some can't even contact home. This helps me keep things in perspective. We are definitely blessed! And God bless all the veterans and active military men and women out there. Thank you for all you do for the rest of us!

Congratulations on your journey so far. Love your attitude as well.

Just wait until you head out for your first solo load. Believe me it was a stressful day. Experienced that today. MN had about an inch of snow overnight, which caused havoc on the freeways. Crashes and cars in the ditch. I definitely had the death grip on the wheel.

Jonesjw Congratulations! I am headed to Millis Training in Eden NC on March 15 and can't wait for it to get here! I'm 57 and have had my own business for the past 12 years but it has come time to shut the doors and move on to a new adventure. I spent a day at a truck stop talking to drivers about getting into driving and getting advice. MTI was recommended by more drivers than any of the other Company CDL schools. Keep us informed of how the 15K mile training goes!

I'm certainly encouraged by the number of excited late-50s guys getting into this! At least I don't feel so lonely...counting the days.
