Cat never had vgt. Turbos. Check turbo wheels for damage. Then cac for leaks and cac hoses. If all is ok. Look at fuel pressure. Does the turbo have a waste gate ?

Okay, he's consulted with a turbo specialist. Tomorrow or Friday he will be testing the fuel pump. Since owning the truck going on six years he's never replaced it or had issues that might be related to it. He's already looked over the CAC and exhaust manifold. His CAT has a single, not a twin turbo. No variable blades or other nonsense. I will update this thread after he tests the fuel pump.
It turns out that the bearings are going out on his three year old turbo, just enough to create some play and slow it down, not enough to shut it down completely. He's ordered a Pittsburgh Power turbo.
At least he got it in the bud. I saw the aftermath of that one that went Vesuvius out the stack. The hugest mess you could ever imagine, and of course pulling brand new trailer.
