red, why dont you get your doubles endorsement and try some of the gravel train companies like troy aggregates, or synegro, down by detroit? i know there is a union one up by flint as well, i beleive its tri-city aggregates? all those guys get paid well, goofy hours, but you get paid by the hour, and you are home every day.

how about P,I & I motor express? they are a flatbed company out of ohio that has a yard down in detroit, and they are union as well. I heard that they are really easy to get into, because everyone hates flatbedding. They do some steel i think, and if they arent hiring, i know ficel steel hauling is ALWAYS hiring, and all the do is bounce between detroit, buff, and gary. but you have to be able to get into canada with them.

I know there isnt #### around flint to get into, but hell, with that much experience, id rather go drive a garbage truck for waste management or allied.

you should get the det/pontiac/grand rapids phone books and just start calling up every company listed under trucking, beer distributors, waste removal, excavation, and food distribution. hell, that was how i found Martin, just flipping through the yellowpages in the flint phonebook.

Thats how i have found my job in buffalo, watch the names on the trucks and just start calling up the companies. If they gotta advertise to get drivers, they PROBABLY suck.

good luck man, worst case you could always drive for mts in gr rapids??

i used to work for martin transport out of their burton mich terminal. It was nice, but they shut the terminal down to run out the union, and now the dedicated runs and home every other day seems to have gone, it looks like its out all week now.

I worked for MTS from 2002 until 2005 out of the Burton office when I was fired over an accident that happened in Mass during a huge snow storm. That was the only trouble I had been in with them. The union did nothing to help me be able to keep my job. It was hell working their but the pay was ok back then. Larry the dispatcher was the worst dispatcher that I have ever had to work with.

There was Greg and Clark. They were both nice. they both dispatch at Bell warehouse now. There is another one from day shift that was a good guy too but can't remember his name. Clark was off with a broken hip I think when he got word that Burton terminal was closed and he was out of work. That is what he told me. I guess it was a blessing in disguise when I got fired.

are you at bell now? I was thinking of the older black man and woman who used to work nights with jeff. i feel like a jerk for not remembering their names, because they always had my back in the morning, and larry would try and ##### at me for something, even though i was busting my ###. I heard jeff was over at bell, is he still?

as messed up as that job was, i miss it, it was very predictable, and even though the mileage rate seemed low when you first heard it, all the dock bumps and border crossings definetly made up for it, it was really consistently GOOD money for me.

I heard that they still have 10 guys or so running over by LSI off of linden rd? do you know anything about that?

I am not at bell any longer. I was running for a guy that had his trucks leased on with them and I was having a hard time with things. They would have me sit all day after a run and call every hour then after 6 or 8 hours of that with no rest they would expect me to run all night. Could not do it any longer. I remember Lisa that was a night dispatcher. I think I remember a black guy but not sure. Like I said it was December 05 when my time there was done. It was a good paying job. I did the run from Flint to New Hampshire. Can't remember the town that I went to. Seems like for ever.

ok, that sounds like a good run! my run was from burton to emporium pa, then back to bay city powertrain, then down to saginaw for dunnage, then home. good run, home every other day. Lisa sounds sort of familiar, that could be it.

I understand about sitting all day waiting for a run and then being expected to run all night, thats why i just quit lj kennedy.
