so rather than doing a pretrip where once upon a time somebody peed--you would rather take a trailer that you know absolutely nothing about its condition

now thats the sign of a true wannabe

Oh, noooo, Canuck. He's Old School. Just ask him.

I would like to be a fly on the wall to watch what he would have done thirty years ago when drivers were actually fixing their own problems rather than calling out the repair truck. My uncle , waaayy back when it was Old School, would change his own tires, replace his own radiator, adjust his own brakes and, horror of horrors, take it to the shop with problems he couldn't fix himself...like turning brake drums and transmission rebuilds. My uncle blew a head gasket and pulled the head on the side of the freeway in the 70's. Of course, that was back when drivers would stop and help each other. Three drivers stopped. One broke out the brews and kept 'em coming while the other three pulled that head. After the repair was complete, they stayed parked right where they were until morning. Oh....and none of them got paid for doing this work. They got paid by RUNNING THE LOAD and understood that maintenance was one of those things you did in order to run the load.

That's real Old School. This guy whines about taking it to the shop. He's not worthy to be a zit on old SouthernPride's behind. It's an embarassment there are people like this in the industry, much less claiming Old School standard.

i can see this guys point of view, but the reality is that this is how the trking industry IS. i bet they did strong arm him into not only moving a trlr w/ bad brakes, but picking up a load...working for free? youre obviously new to this because youll be doing alot of stuff for free at ANY bottomfeeder company.

you could of told them you cant find a trlr,or that the only place you would take this is to a shop...

bottom line, you put yourself in that situation, and lack of patience, bad attitude and rage won.. communicating w/ management would of resolved this, even if it ended up w/ you driving to their terminal and dropping the truck off there (without the trlr).

abandoning trk? wont be able to get w/ a company that does a decent backround check.

I stand by what I said...he CHOSE to run the faulty equipment. If he's too selfish or ignorant to take it to a shop and get the issue repaired...that's his problem.

i picked up a trailer with bad brakes, and NO, i do not crawl beneath trailers so i can see deep inside brake drums. maybe those of you that do might think about it... how long has it been since another driver hid and "cooled off a brake" where you are crawling? stupid. typical, but stupid.

You do not crawl beneath trailers....'nuf said.

You don't have to look "deep" into brake drums to see evidence of faulty brakes. This is a huge cop-out.

Yes, I crawl under every trailer I hook to. I better be able to see a good amount of brake shoe on each wheel, or it's not going anywhere. Besides, crawling under the trailer affords the opportunity to catch other problems.

    Or didn't you know that?

And BTW...what the hell does your question about another driver "hiding" have to do with anything? Or perhaps I'm missing the point....

Why the hell are you complaining about anything over 40k in the box? The driving school I went to had several trucks with 40k in the boxes.

    On their road training/testing trucks.

Do this abandonment thing twice before coming to this company, and you're surprised you "got screwed" by someone who would hire a driver with a history of abandonment and complaining about LEGAL LOADS? Color me shocked. Your attitude to the criticism here tells me everything I need to know about the type of person you are.

You might think you're "not putting up with BS" but to everyone here, seeing your history and attitude, it's "entitlement issues." Fortunately for the rest of us, both attitudes get washed out in trucking for the most part.

If you've been with three different companies in less than a year and have abandoned trucks multiple times, I'm willing to bet you're staying with trucking because nobody else in their right mind will hire you.

part of my job. how glib.

is hassling with some jackas* who'se trying to force me to something illegal and dangerous part of my job, as well? is being conned about the weight of freight to be loaded onto an unsafe trailer part of my job, too?

    seriously. i want to know.
