This gets right to the point of whats wrong with some O/O's. They are hauling for a rate thats not profitable and yet they will defend it. (just look at some of the posts on this forum) I feel sorry for them because they have bought into "Pull it cheap and run all the miles you can"

Ok, seems like we agree on those thoughts. I was O/O at 20, 58 now.
I agree, "competent " is a key word.
I read it as you were speaking of ALL O/O's in the rest of your reply.
I have plenty of friends leased to carriers who pull containers at a buck a mile ( or less ), + FSC, bragging about 1400 miles a week. I know local truckers who pull their own trailer, their own insurance, for $ 3.25 a mile one way, have to dead head back.
I run local, averaged $2.36 on the hub last year, pulling a non- owned trailer. Only run about 50,000 miles a year. Beats my over the road days.

You are correct, I believe that is a poor business model. I do not agree with that idea.
Sadly, that is the plan most of these companies offer, and many drivers think it is the way to make a profit.

I'm glad we got that straight....:biggrin_25526:

I have no tolerance or sympathy for guys that "run cheap"...I'm a firm believer of that law of the jungle, "Survival of the fittest".
If some guy comes up to me with a sob story about how hard it is to make it pulling $1.00 a mile freight, I'll just tell him that maybe he ought to look into some other line of work.
You don't make it in this business unless you use your brain for more that holding your ears apart!

My husband says if he's going to go broke, the company is going broke too. He's not hauling just to make the company money.

If your leased to Mercer and your parameters you've setup with your coordinator is not to offer you any loads at less than $1.80 / mile then you'll only be offered those kind of loads. It doesn't matter if you've been there 4 days or 34 years. It's not rocket science.
Mercer offers a lot of freight for a lot less than $1.80/mi. and also a lot, for more than $1.80 as well.
People should spend more time managing their own business and less preaching how someone else should run theirs. Either that or join a union!

REDD and TB John Thank this.

Those of you who have never run for Mercer could never understand what a stand-up operation they run.

I was proud to have their name on my equipment for nearly 6 years.

    blackw900 and Shadowed Thank this.
