Billing takes less than 5-mins per account and then 20-30 mins a week for collection calls. Most of the time I would create the invoice while waiting to get unloaded, scan the bills when they gave them to me and send it off. Call completed before leaving the receiver.

And love all the Mr. Wizard math types that can add up "all those expenses". But can't grasp when they are taking $.50/mile or more hair cut that this money is paying for those extra expenses.

All the hassle for and extra $2-$3k per month. Gee, what would I do with an extra $36K per year?

If you are going to make a decision on what you are going to do, please make sure you turn your brain on while doing this. They are offering soul sucking miles because the mileage rate is 50% of the gross and only chance of making money (not a living, that is not living) is to run these insane level of miles. Leave the stupid stuff for the company drivers. When you are an owner you should be able to act like it.

Opition 1: When I got started I had a ton of factoring company's call me wanting me to sign up with them. Some even yelled at me on the phone to sign up with them. A factoring company will pay you for the delivered load and charge you a small fee maybe 3% and then bill the customer. Deliver a $1000 load, factoring company will pay you $940.00 and you don't have to worry about getting paid.

Opition 2: Bill them your self, After my first year I started billing customers my self. I have had to call some brokers for a late payment, but have never had any problems getting paid.

Just because you can make a sandwich doesn't mean you can run a sub-shop.

Very few owner operators understand the business they are in. If they did we wouldn't see all the marketing towards them advertising miles.

Last I checked you can cash miles at the bank.
