I think its ultimately a ploy along with unitainium diesel to get about a million trucks off of the road within the next few years so they can make it safer for the bicyclist’s.

They probably sleep well ... Because their not smart enough to realize the sinking ship that they bought a ticket to cruise on
I have no sympathy for them..just a good laugh when they go horizontal
So back on subject does this mean the old dinosaurs with the mechanicals are exempt? I fully realize that they already on the endangered list because they are a major contributing factor to global warming..( That's not my view)... just paraphrasing with all the tree hugers are saying

So this is what I wrote:

I would like to strongly voice my opposition against any Federal Mandate on speed limiters for commercial motor vehicles. Having been in the industry for 30 years with a very solid and proven safety record, I don't feel like I and all the others like me should be lumped into the same group as the troublemakers or bad apples in the industry. I witness daily the habits of distracted and unattentive drivers in all types of vehicles, from mothers with their kids in the car, to other cmv's, to even law enforcement as well. Perhaps putting more emphasis on highway patrol, whose job is to keep the highways safe, would be a much better deterrent to speeding, as well as heavy fines and accumulative points to the offender, and if the offender receives another speeding ticket or even moving violation, then at that point their vehicle would have to be set at a limited speed for the duration of 6 months, as a punishment as well as fines and points. There are many other ways to make the highways safer, speed limiters for all is not one of them. We currently have many commercial vehicles set at company restrictive speeds, and many safe drivers like myself that do respect the laws and rules of the road. The reason why so many seem to be speeding can only be pointed at the current Hours Of Service rules and the inability to stop the clock. Drivers are racing against the clock daily, taking risks, speeding through construction zones, because they are being pushed by their company to get that load there on time. The big transportation companies that are represented by the American Trucking Association, the group that has been trying to put the little guy out of business for years, because that's what they are paid to do. I strongly oppose the use of a speed limiter in a commercial vehicle on a Federally Mandated level, as a form of punishment yes, but not for any other reason. It will NOT improve safety, it will cause incidents of road rage to go through the roof, it will cause many to not ever slow down because they are now limited, and their company is on their back to get that load delivered or they will be out of a job. I am a responsible American that does not need to have their hand held, there still are quite a few of us out here.

And strangely enough as an OOIDA member I have not received anything from them on this yet. I wonder if they have a plan of attack, even though they don't seem to win many of their arguments for us.

    Awesome words. Great response.

The speed limiter for repeat offenders is a magnificent out of the box idea. In my opinion also.

Most OOIDA members had this email in their box this am. They have been on this from the start.

FMCSA is considering a rule that would mandate speed limiters on commerical trucks. The latest proposal seeks additional information about whether CMVs over 26,000 pounds equipped with an electric engine control unit should be restricted to certain speeds. Previous proposals have suggested 60, 65, or 68 MPH.

OOIDA encourages you to submit comments on FMCSA’s speed limiter notice. We unequivocally oppose any action that would mandate speed limiters. Studies and research have proven that traffic is safest when all vehicles travel at the same relative speed. Limiting trucks to speeds below the flow of traffic increases interactions between vehicles and will lead to more crashes. Any efforts to mandate speed limiters will take more control out of the driver’s hands and penalize small businesses. Use the links below to tell FMCSA why Speed Limiters do not improve highway safety!

The public comment period is open until Friday, June 3rd. Please respond directly to this email if you have any questions regarding Speed Limiters. Thank you!

I'm trying my best to do everything in my very limited power. If the OOIDA barely stands a chance then what hope do I have? It's why I'm asking everyone I can for help.

In 79 I got 3 speeds in a week, flatbedding on I-35 in MN.
Pulled my auto license but left me a work permit to truck. Learned my lesson and haven't got on since in a rig.
I'm already speed limited but left my opinion against this for the feds yesterday.
