How big were your tanks? 240 gal # even a crappy 5mpg would get you 1200 miles and it would be sans trailer, so the mileage should be higher. Getting home from 1200 miles away is easier than 2400 miles away.

Bobtail would probably be 9 or better, unless you run against the governor.

I had a truck once with twin 150s, actually a bunch of them, and pulling a reefer with those, you could very easily do 1500 miles loaded and still have 90 gallons in the tanks, the gauge would read empty at that point.

I guess it would depend on how much you could come up with to spend, I would have put that amount of fuel on plastic to get home in this situation rather than the alternative. Daimler and International were only giving a bus ticket for returned trucks from what I understood or 200 dollars.

I don't think i'd want to pony up that much for fuel. I think renting a car would be cheaper that far away so I don't blame em.

As I aid in another thread.
Bounce my pay check then go out of business and strand my arse away from home means: If it isn't bolted down I'm selling it for what you owe me in pay as doing a drivers/contractors/mechanics lien on the truck will take way to long and won't get me home today when there is no company left to get anything from even if they go after that bottom feeder of a son of a great company owner!

Besides with a shut off fuel card and a bounced last pay check I WILL get home and it's not by sticking my thumb out in the middle of a freaking blizzard like we're having right now before Christmas!

Now for those of you who are driving for companies that seem to never have enough money on the fuel card and it's a regular story like with Arrow or New Rising Fenix I would think really hard about staying on board what is a sinking ship! Find out what the cost of renting a car, a bus or plane ticket is from the farthest point from your home and put that money in your pocket and leave it there or have a credit card with at least that amount on it! I always had a credit card in my pocket for just such an emergency and had to use it in August! Always be prepared for the worse and this is about as "worse" as it can get! I'd be looking for another job no matter how hard it is right now!

Now as to fueling the truck to get home or as close as I could get and the heck with Tulsa or Huston! NO WAY IN HELLO will I put MY money in a bottom feeders truck! Cost more than a plane ticket unless you're close enough that the cost is about the same! I'd drive the thing til the tanks went MT then rent a car if you have a good credit card or get as close to where ever you want to use to get home like bus or plane. I'd just park the truck some where out of sight and wait for the police to come to your door then tell them where it is!

    Good luck guys and gals

I have only had luck once with a 1 way rental, most of the time, it seems they want the car returned to its area somehow, which is how I got the deal.

Insurance wouldn't be such a question mark with a rental, though.

I'm pretty sure Arrow used com-data, so no fuel authorized---no fuel pumped---think maybe somebody is spinning some tales here.....after all there are some drivers who tend to "exaggerate a bit"...you think?

That's what I thought when i read about a driver filling up and then getting ripped about paying for it. You have to punch in all the crap before you fuel to even get the pump on. If the cards were cut off, the pump would likely never activate.

It could be at some smaller places you pump with permission and then pay, only the larger chains check for approval before pumping as a routine matter in most of the places I have been.

as i said in my post earlier i got this second hand from a friend of mine but what he was told she swiped her card, and was fueling, and then was stopped in the middle of fueling. i did not talk to the Arrow driver myself. And as usual the cynics on this forum make me regret posting anything at all.

While the bus ticket is a nice gesture; has anyone ever tried to get all the crap in their truck on a bus? It ain't easy.
