Well starting Sunday the 13 I took the wonderful werner transport!(greyhound) from Houston to the Dallas terminal for orientation. Got put up in a hotel in the terminal, not too bad but not a holiday inn. Starting bright and early Monday morning we just did paperwork until about 430 pm. As of now it's day 2(Tuesday) and it's a little more paperwork then qualcom training. Hopfully going with a trainer tonight, if not then tomorrow if everything goes smooth. Werner now only runs you all 48 if your running teams. If solo youl get dedicated or regional. I'm set up be run the dollar general account. I'll update more as time goes along.
Well another update since it's been a while. I went out with a trainer for a week before having to go home to get a new dl, guess they didn't like mine?? After getting my tenperary dl and them saying I can't come back until I get the plastic dl, I wait about 3.5 weeks and finaly just called safety to ask them, turns out the temp was perfectly fine. Awesome, sat at home for nothing. Well I did come back and only waited about 12 hours for trainer. Being my 2nd trainer, this guy seems a lot better and we get along really good. Training on the family dollar account now and it's not as bad as people think. Well I'll try to update with some stuff worth readin. Be safe guys.
Good morning - It sucks that they are jacking you around on your temp ID. I'm working on getting my CDL. Werner sponsered the school at the local college although it's not PTDI certified, they have my app and the Werner recruiter gave me the standard phone call to let me know that they are "interested". Do you know what kind of route you are getting, if you are overnight or day runs and how much you will be paid? What about home time? I am hearing numbers all over the place and it would be nice to hear from someone who is ahead of me in the process. One last thing, are you sharing a room with another dude or do you get your own? I appreciate the response.
I see your in Houston. I'm located in cleveland right off 59. As far as us, the only options we have is 11western regional(12 really), dollar general, and otr TEAM. my first trainer was on the dg account wich has it's good and bad days. You gotta push these 1000lb+\- "rolltainers" wich is easy on flat ground, and hell if there's a slight incline. My trainer now is on family dollar wich is pretty easy. From my understanding were not able to get on fd cause the distribution center closest to us won't have Werner trucks there anymore. They do have day runs from Houston to Dallas and that's it but you gotta have experience. As far as hometime, the dg and fd accounts usually get you home weekends, or 2 days a week. Regional is 1 day off for every 7 days out. Usually 2 weeks on 2 days off. While in the hotel(youl be in dallas) you share rooms. I had a new roomie the three days I was in orientation bit they were never in the room. You can pay $15/night to have your own though. Lastly, your going to hear a ton of numbers regarding pay. Especiallly on dg and fd accounts. Well good luck to ya man and maybe I'll see ya around.
TYVM Your post is very helpful. I hope to be heading to Allentown in August and was given similar choices with FD (guess that's all people can afford these days) for the eastern US. Recruiter quoted rates as: .29, .305, .315 and .325 cents/ml. for 1 week through 4 weeks out respectively. I have learned that there are NO promises so we'll see. I look forward to your posts.
No problem, click me on a friend and I'll keep in touch. I'm up by Humble south of you. There is lots of DOOMSDAY on this board that was scaring the hell out of me and it's nice to hear that someone is going to do well with them. I'm going to LoneStar either the 26th or the 11th, depending on the grant paperwork coming through. Since your post, I'm going to give them a second look.
Steve, fd is a pretty good account. Kinda depends on what dc your runnin out of too as far as when youl get home/how many loads you get. It's deff a workout too. The pay depends a LOT on with dedicated accounts because you can deliver to like 4-7 places and not leave a city. So you won't have basically any miles. But then you can drive 800 miles and make 2 stops. The "800-1000 a week" they claim is pretty true though. Mt; yea I know where your at. My girlfriend works at the brickhouse tavern by the mall. Were headin to porter/Houston today and tomorrow. So if you see a blue Pete with a fd trailer it's me ha. As far as training so far, I'll be getting yet another trainer cause mine took a better job. Hopfully my next guys cool but not looking forward to waiting at the terminal for another trainer.
Quick update; everything been pretty good, kind of getting into it with my Sdm because after trainin I have to move cross country for family reasons and she won't tell me the process with Werner to do that. Sdm also said that the recruiter lied when saying we get a week off after training, but everyone I have talked to says they did so we shall see.. So I'm just going to wait till I get a truck and dispatcher and explain the situation to them. Werner isn't a horrible company but deft after some experience I'm going to look into better oppertunities.
Well another update... Been sitting in a hotel for 4 days waiting for a new trainer cause my last one was smart and quit. I switched to western regional due to me moving to Vegas after training, and requested a western regional trainer to know what I'm doing.. Makes sense right?Sdm department doesn't think so. I'm being "forced" to go with this trainer.. And I asked her ok if I don't get along with this guy I'm being forced to stay on his truck? And she blatantly said yes. It's safe to say after a couple months experience I'm running as far as I can from Werner.
