i agree with mickey and condo. been there done that. pay for your own schooling as it probily will be better training that a puppy mill. as condo has said if they start treating you poorly then your not locked into that contract to pay off the loan to them and you'll probily learn one on one in a truck not this 3 or 4 crap!! there are some better companies that will hire you from a college that won't if you went through a puppy mill. and ask yourself is it really free when you'll be there slave till your schooling is pd for and if they get shady they can fire you and be prepared to see the bill in the mail as well as they will probily mark up your dac report with false rubbish!! remember the bottom feeder companies have to keep the seats cold to also keep that goverment money comming in at the rate of 10-15 grand per student and thats on top of the students tution!! and a college is more regulated by the dmv as well wich means better training

 

Alright my last last question part 2 (lol).

1. I notice a truck going by this evening with a headlight out. Needless to say the 5 0`s would love to jump on that if they saw him. When given a ticket for something like that does that account against you and does your company hold that against you.
2. I see some places pay by percentage not miles. Ok percentage of what?
3. Not the state patrol but the other type of enforcement whom love to pull over trucks, what are they doing and asking for.

Hire rate means nothing when carriers have an 80% turnover rate meaning they are hiring newbies today to replace newbies that quit yesterday .

 

option b for sure.the good thing about b also is most companies will still pay you back for the schooling if you stay a year.so you can still have them pay for your school.the good part is if you end up not staying there you are not tied to them.

 

OK, first thing to always remember, first and formost. That tractor trailer is your resposibility when you are driving. Headlight out, ticket, points on your licence. Taillight, ditto. Brakes, tires under, un inflated, airleaks, non secured load, airbags, mudflaps, ect, ect, ect. YOU are responsable for your rig, period. Maybe you get a cool cop, probably not. The bears you seee mostly with the pulled over trucks are D.O.T. enforcement and their job is specificly commercial vehicals. And they don't have to have probable cause to pull you over, they can do all 3 levels of inspection from level 3, (check logs) level 2 (quick general inspection of truck, trailer and logs) level 1( at this point your gonna be there awhile while they check every thing in detail, plus your logs) Regular state cops nowadays ( at least in IL. where I know a few) are level 3 certified and will check logs after they give you a ticket.
When you are paid by percentage, it refers to a percentage of what the load pays.
It can mean big money, but remember if you run empty you get nothing. Which is not that big a deal if it's 30, 40 miles, but if you run 100 or more to your next load it can mean alot.

I'm paid percentage and get $.40 a mile for all deadhead and bobtail .
