I'll let that stand as a matter of opinion on the EPUs not doing their job in Laredo or Vegas. The ones I've used were fine if 'primed' to local conditions before shutting the truck off. And yes that includes Laredo just last week. Now I'll stipulate that the TriPacs offer a few more goodies like continuous 120v power. But I know first hand the issues & have spent plenty of time at Thermo King dealers, where PTL has a national account, getting them fixed regularly. If you say their mechanics at their own shops are poor then we'll go with it. Be sure & tell them that. Good luck getting them to fix anything when you go there.
i have had tripack with one company 2 years never any trouble with real mechanics 2 years with shoddy mechanics and thermo king dealers being the worse and now have been in epu for 2 years marginally ok but i'm sure you know more opinions are like butt holes everyone has one
I agree with Pete. At Lessors the APUs don't have a myriad of issues like I've heard others say. Preventative maintenance goes a long way. If you don't maintain it it will go to #### quickly.
Yeah whatever blah blah blah. I'm not going to argue with ya super trucker. You do your thing. Bye now.
I have had both...i do prefer the tripac the epu worked fine for about 6 hrs but i sleep with a cpap and had to have truck started couple of times due to batteries going dead...i understand the internationals start themselves to charge batteries and that would be fine. my epu was a freightliner
the number one killer to a tripac is bad/not enough fuel the tripac has an inline fuel filter on copper pipe behind the engine if your not careful a small kink in the copper line will block off fuel supply. considering they dont burn much to start with is a common problem
That's what Craig told us in Orientation. 8 batteries and managing the power drain takes some adjustment. But hey. I'd be happy just to have something working. At least the inverter works.
Spending a 34 at a Pilot just outside of St. Louis for a Monday delivery. This place has Idle Air and I am taking advantage of it because they can't seem to get me to a place to fix my APU. Honestly, it's times like this I miss Western...they paid for the air, not me. And it is not inexpensive, but I am taking advantage of 40 hours for $50, so that's not bad.
