Hello again, Gents. To answer the one question, of course, i'll be looking into a bigger radiator. Been talking the the folks at detroit radiator about one of their 5 or 6 core jobs. Anybody know whether the stock charge air cooler will flow enough air for the extra hp or will i need to source a custom cac? Or where I might look for such a custom cac?

The stock CAC will flow fine but will not hold big boost for long. I split two stockers at the side manifold joint in short order. I have been running a custom Dura-lite cooler for a while now and seems to be holding up fine. They said it was rated for 100-150 lbs of boost. They have a website with some info.

    Jlcamp,
Not sure what it is pushing for power as I have not dynoed it yet. The truck runs great and is not short on power. It is spinning the Mich. Turbo stage 5 to 50 lbs of boost with the PPBox only on level 2.....with egt's around 800 degrees. I am looking at some custon ecm work and then I will have it dynoed. It would be fun to take it to CAT for a dyno run with a "low power complaint." :biggrin_255:

On the Heat issue, dont just jam a huge radiator and hope for the best, look at keeping the air flowing through the engine area as well..

if the air flows, the radiator will work at its max efficency.

Over here, our guys lift the hood/cab/sleeper up from the frame to move the air, but we are talking 3 45' trailer roadtrain work. What this shows, is the importance of airflow to cooling.

Also, just cause the radiator is holding coolant temp, doesnt mean there arent other components heatsoaking.

I uesd a stock Garret CAC for 8yrs on my last W900 and was putting anywhere from 40-50psi through it all the time.I did eventually go to a Duralite.

I went to the big duralite and split it, got a stock W900 cooler and its been holding 50+ psi so far for the last 3 months. Duralite = junk. For the money its costs to get one you get a custom bar and plate CAC made.

    Cat and Casey,

I use the truck in heavy haul grossing over 100,000lbs every day. My running is about 50% back road and 50% highway. My trailer is 13' tall tri-axle with long tractor trailer gap and no fairings, etc.....so my fuel mileage will be alot different than most but right now I'm averaging 4.5-5 mpg and with the summer blend 5 to 5.5 mpg. I know some of the newer accerts in the same application are averaging 3.5 to 4 mpg and they are only good at "downhill" running. :biggrin_255:
