Yeah, Eagle Transport Corp in Charlotte or Greensboro runs automatics and been doing quite a bit of hiring lately. The only question I have is wether you can swing load arms at the terminals and roll up hoses to put them back on the truck ... if you can handle that you just may find a home at Eagle. They also have a small chemical division that you might like. Lest I forget ... from the bottom of my heart ... thank you for all you have done for all of us by serving and sacrificing ... God Bless You!

Thanks for the input. I do have my limitations though. Reefer and vanis about as far as I can go. Flatbed is next to impossible, and believe me I have tried. Ive never been one to use the accomodations of the VA as an excuse to try to get special treatment. I mean, I know its there for me to use but Ive been determined to continue to do this without special treatment.

I can move around fine actually, even with two titanium/aluminum bars as femurs in my leg. kinda funny at times when people see me get out of my truck and walk to the back to open the doors as they notice the Interlocking attachment that connect my foot. I think Ive just learned to get off my ### and make any excuses and just do it.

I do immensely appreciate all the feedback though. Its definately given me some avenues to research and see where I can go

Not sure, but I think Crete has automatics, I had a cousin who drove a truck, he lost his left leg just above the knee, but still was able to shift floating, he would use his artificial leg to get into first, then float, maybe with a little practice, you could widen your search in jobs, good luck, thank you for your service and sacrifice to our country

US Express is automatics.....that would be my last choice but they do have a ton of dedicated accounts.
Interstate is hiring....not sure but I think they have automatics too.
You could call Continental Express, new trucks and probably some autos too.

I have heard some Walmart Trucks are now auto.....They like hiring Veterans and it would sure pay good.
They love guys with perfect driving records.

You have a great outlook and will go far my friend! Thanks for serving our country!

dbrober70, I applaud your efforts and thank you for your service to our country. I can relate to your situation as I have spent the past 10 years overcoming a disability to my right leg. My situation is a little different in that I never lost any part of my external leg, but rather have needed to repair the inside of my leg with the use of endoprosthesis to restore circulation and mobility. I believe a person is often only as disabled as they allow them self to be. Most people who already know me are surprised I even have a disability at all because of how much I do not let it interfere with my daily life.

I personally would not limit my search to only carriers who currently run trucks with automatic transmissions only. I would include applying to carriers who you may wish to work for who could supply a tractor with an automatic transmission as a reasonable accommodation under the ADA Amendments Act of 2008. Many carriers are already moving towards the use of automatic transmissions in an attempt to reduce fuel costs.

I wish you well my friend.
