I edited the post to let you know, you don't have to live near a terminal if you're running long haul.

Is there are waiting list or delay in starting classes? When I lived in FL I could wait a few months to start a $500 CDL program at a Community College or pay $3500 at a for-profit school that starts every Monday. I needed a job yesterday so I took out a loan and started right away.

I am not in a hurry. So I am looking into attending a school through a Technical School ( Community College). They do not offer classes until August. The fee will be out of my own pocket, so the dollar amount is very low on my list of important items to consider.

Do you know if the ITT Tech 160 hr CDL training in Ft Wayne IN is acceptable to start with most companies?

Most companies for sure. If you have a particular company in mind, call and ask if they hire from that school. Most tech schools or community college schools have no problem at all with drivers getting a good job.

Here's something I just found; is it accurate? It's from 2016. It has something to do with the student financial aid program.

(WISH) – ITT Technical Institute announced Tuesday it will be ceasing operations.

According to a press release from ITT, the decision was made because the U.S. Department of Education created new requirements and conditions for the institution's federal student financial aid programs that the Department of Education administers.

ITT Technical Institute, which has a Fort Wayne campus at 2810 Dupont Commerce Ct., said it proposed alternatives but the Department of Education rejected them.

After evaluating the new requirements, the decision was made to discontinue operations effective immediately at the end of the June 2016 quarter. The upcoming September quarter that was set to begin Monday, Sept. 12 has been canceled.

Ivy Tech shows it's a 4 week school, which means it's 160 hours, so that's good.
Get all the endorsements before graduating; you do this at the DMV, not at the school.
Scroll to the top of this page and click on "CDL Practice Tests" to get started. Memorize as much as you can for now so you can pass the tests. There's an app also; "With DMV Genie, you'll be prepared for your car, motorcycle or CDL test. You'll be surprised how close the app is to the real thing! NO SURPRISES AT THE DMV: Get ready for your permit test or driver's license test with 350 questions written based on your state’s official driver’s handbook."

    FedEx Freight : Ft. Wayne
    • Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements
    • Must possess one (1) year experience within most recent three (3) years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
    • Edit: I'd still choose Old Dominion as first choice.
