This is exactly what I found. These parts are definitely in this engine. Also got my hands on an old Cummins D.I.M dial card, not that I need it but i got it.

IMG_0506.png The AS initial timing lines up with what is in our manual. Both that CPL and this timing index show it to be a 1975 at earliest, its in a 1973 so I’m assuming the army just had a stockpile of these rebuilt to their specifications and this old truck was gifted with a rebuilt motor at one point.

I have a YouTube channel I’m posting all these videos to, if you have some time maybe watch one or two of them and let me know if I’ve missed something critical or screwed something up big time.
    Channel is CampWells

It probably came with a NH250 since it was a military truck. Which was later swapped with an NTC290. If the push rods were bent have you checked the valves for damage?

Just visual, none of the bridges look pissed off and it looks like all the valve stems are about equal off the head. Had to machine up a unit to bolt down in the head to hook up my leak down detector, will also double as compression tester and triple as a base for the tool I’m building to check initial height, Not forking out $1200 for some blocks and 2 dial indicators- or even $500 for the china units when I can build a better one. I’ll share some pictures of it when it’s done.
