RK, one other thing to keep in mind, if a recruiter (now or ever) cops an attitude with you, just call in and ask for another recruited. They get paid based on their job performance, if they can't complete the sell it looks bad on them. It look alot worse if they can't complete the sell, but another recruiter does. Good luck, and remember total honesty is the key to making sure you aren't sent home for something in the past.
So if honesty is the key, what do you all recommend when it comes to not really remembering your previous dates of previous employers.. The job I have now I have been at for 3 years however when I was younger I did job hunt a lot to find the better paying job and I was young. Never fired from any of them but there were quite a few and I don't remember start and end dates etc.. My current employer needed the dates so I did estimate and that was fine however in the trucking industry HOW strict are they with that? Just wondering thanks
Estimated dates are fine, or at least was in my case. I had to guess on past employment hire dayes and traffic tickets from 8 years ago. I was told to guess as close as possible, wasnt an issue cause i at least tried and didnt lie etc..
The feds require that carriers collect the last 10 years work history, but they usually don't check past the last 3 years unless something shows up in your background check. Some do go back further, but that is their policy. Most people can't remember exact dates of previous employment. As long as you get close, nothing should be said. The important thing is to not have any unaccounted for gaps in employment. If you have driven for the last 10 years then there should be a copy of your employment history on DAC. You are entitled to receive a copy for free each year.
All this talk makes me SO glad I have a 27-year history with one employer, one of the DOT operating agencies. Makes this whole thing so much easier!
Yeah going into the trucking industry is exactly my purpose.. To get out of the JOBS and into a career so I can stay for a LONG time rather then keep hunting around. All of my other employers, as stated, just asked me to be close as possible with my dates which hasn't been a problem. I suppose if I'm honest and just explain, I don't quite remember the exact dates, things should be alright!
Yeah man, don't syche yourself out. And don't listen to rumors. I went in with worries, and questions a million. Alot of trucking is mental, patience is your best asset right now.
It takes a couple of weeks. You can pull your own DAC once a year for free. I found false info on my MVR. It cost me a couple of possible jobs. I was self employed. I had to show my schedule C's for several years. Swift checks your MVR 5 years. I told them EVERY ticket and suspension since I was 18. I had 2 suspensions that were clerical errors. Trust me they will go all the way back to day 1. Don't lie. Don't lie. Don't lie. You lie? You are hosed. It will also show up on your next DAC.
This dude ain't doing anything for you buy hiring you at swift. Why you settling for a pellet gun when you should be chasing a 50 cal to man? Screw him and his attitude he aint doing you any kind of favor. If anything your helping him keep his job. Ask him this "how many people like me with clean records apply here?" Answer: Not many. I get riled up when I see these fools act like their company is cream of the crop and they try and convince you that no one will hire you for what ever reason. You need to start sending your app all over the place. Screw this a hole. I would of laughed at him when he gave me tude and told him to kick rocks! Sorry bout the rant but this riled me up. You ain't some thug or criminal looking for something for free. Your a hard worker with a clean record looking for an opportunity to make a honest living. I would call him back and tell him to eat cht and lose your number.
I've been following this. Overall, the advice is sound. Not sure I can add anything except to stay positive and don't let the b****ers chase you away from opportunity.
