Landstar does have a good prices on fuel at TA/Petro and Comdata was almost free. Just $1.75 to load money on your fuel card and no other fees

You wouldn't have to book HM loads. You still would book whatever loads you wanted...but saying you don't want to do the HM loads will limit your options.

As far as them requiring it I think it is two-fold....they probably think it sets the bar a little higher for the type of driver they can bring on, and then if everyone has HM they don;t run the risk of an unqualified driver ending up with a HM load.

Seems like maybe you should just stick with what you're doing for now if some of these things are bothersome to you. Especially if you're really making what you claim currently and still spending that much time at home.

The 2% was for cargo liability I think kinda sad I don't remember but it was only 2% so I never woried about plus 35% of 100% is the easy conversation. They were taking 33% of 98% minuse to 2% off the top.
I did long hauls 1,800-2,400 miles trips and those pay less per mile $2.24 was about the best I could ever get. So a cross country trip best would pay $5,000 to maybe $6,000 minus all the % and fuel and everything. I even looked at running shorter runs because the should pay more per mile. What I found was Landstar did not have the short runs for vans. Then you add unload and reload times. I found I very hard or impossible to run short trips, say 400-800 miles to get my rate per mile up and make a better money

I also say getting in good with agent is big because the agent will call you first and never even post his best paying loads. That's very hard do also I found because the agents don't have the same load every week. The loads are hit and miss and seed more like just good timing

I enjoyed having my own truck but people don't talk about stuff like. Lots of all the good paying loads would only last like 30 seconds on the load board. I've had agents tell me they will post a good paying load and their phone will not stop ringing. So that's why some like to have a list of drivers to call first.

Another thing Landstar does not talk about is the agents can post a load on the Landstar load board and the load board out side open to public if they want. I'm not saying it wrong but it makes it more difficult to get that load.

Wrong. If Landstar brokers a load to you as an outside carrier, they are going to take 20% off the top maybe more. You will only get 80% at best. There are circumstances where this doesn't apply, if the agent is in a bind for example.
