They got some nice trucks. Pretty quick too. Pass me at 68mph easily.Chinatown Thanks this.

Roehl was my first company. I didn't make a fortune but enjoyed my time there. There were busy weeks and slow weeks. Eventually I was able to get on a dedicated fleet with consistent, predictable miles that got me home every weekend.
Equipment was well maintained, people were decent, no complaints really.
But this was 11 years ago so no idea how things are now.ducnut, hope not dumb twucker and Chinatown Thank this. -
The best company with your experience level is the one who gives you an opportunity. You gotta get your foot in the door some kind of way to get to where you want to be. Swift may have more regional and local opportunities I would guess, but you may have to pay your dues to get to your ultimate goal. Don't listen to what drivers say about either company because trucking, regardless of where you, is all about what you put into it. That being said, I say flip a coin and hit the road.Concorde Thanks this.

This is a great piece of advice, I have been applying at a lot of different places recently in several states and despite the fact that I am getting a lot of follow-up from recruiters only two companies have actually taken steps to move the ball forward in terms of hiring me and even with those two nothing is guaranteed. I had a phone conversation with one company this morning and it is probably not going to work out. As of now I am down to one company that might make me a legitimate offer.

Also be careful with co's that have different divisions (flatbed, reefer, dry van, or dedicated accounts) You may hire on for dry van, but when orientation is over, surprise ! , we only have reefer positions right now.

Schneider tried to pull that nonsense with me. I applied for a relatively high paying tanker job and they said that they would hire me but I would have to do any one of a series of jobs I was in no way interested in and that maybe some time in the future I could get into a position I actually wanted. No bueno.lual Thanks this.

Thank you for the advice. I agree that if you do a good job you will get the miles in time. I had to put my job search on hold because my sister who is only 20 months older than me recently passed away unexpectedly from cancer. It really got to me so I had my Dr set me up for all kinds of screening and testing. It took a while to get on their schedules but I was finally able to complete a in depth array of testing and thankfully I am cancer free and ready to get started. I am not sure if this burnt some bridges because the recruiters I was talking to are not responding to my calls or message's.

What happened to your job offers from Roehl & Swift?
Did you let these offers collect too much dust?

I don’t think so. I spoke to a recruiter with Roehl and he said I was still within the 60 days from when I graduated CDL school and he would have the recruiter I was working with give me a call but she hasn’t replied to any message or emails. I left the recruiter that I spoke with at Swift an message and asked her to give me a call but I haven’t heard back. Maybe I will soon.
