Need to remove some Huck rivets holding on a visor on a 2006 KW W900. They appear to be stainless. I have been told to either center punch and drill them, or to grind off the heads. Would like to save the visor if I can. Any tips?

    TIA

although i have never tried removing huck rivets, the ordinary rivets i have removed, i drilled thru them. might be better than chancing a grinding wheel to damage the visor?

I don't have any pics of the rivets unfortunately but they are literally just miniature huck bolts. If you can get to the back side you could probably just about cut them off with some cutters. If that's not possible, I'd center punch them and drill. Don't need to use a very big bit (approx the same size as the shank of the huck rivet). All you need to do is drill in just enough that the head seperates from the shank. Done properly you shouldn't damage anything. Personally I wouldn't grind them off. Just too easy to slip off and gouge up stuff.

You can buy those shiny covers for rivets allready in place by drilling a smaller hole in them an then push in shiny cover over rivet an it looks like a pro. job

What do you do when drilling and the rivet begins spinning? If you are steady handed you can use a die grinder with a small wheel and get it done. Just be very careful of where the stream of sparks is going. I have seen a few big 'oh sheet' because of sparks. Center punch, drill, then die grinder if necessary.
