I live in nc as well and went to road master then went with Prime and I like it. It depends on the person how much money u want to make. If u want to sit at truck stops and hang out then that's what u get. If u want to run like I do then u make money. As a company driver I still bring home 800 plus but I'm a runner.

Sounds like your describing the perfect job. That would be around $27 an hr or. 45cpm averaging 62mph seeing that is where most company trucks are governed at these days. If you find a job where that is attainable please let me know. Until then I'm going to keep making money the best way I know how. The company I work for has 15 otr drivers and none made under 60K last year.

I realize that's a pipe dream due to the mentality of most who aspire to an OTR driving career, but what I described should be the baseline for fair compensation. Drivers should stop buying into the cpm mentality and pay attention to how much time is spent away from home and family to the benefit of the employer. You're selling your TIME to the employer, not miles. Speed limiters on the trucks and paid by the mile? That cuts the driver's pay for the same amount of time spent working, and saves the carrier money on fuel. Driver loses, company wins. They pass the savings along to their customers by further cutting rates.

If everyone at your company did $60k or better, then I'd say you're probably being paid a fair rate.

Isn't it sad that unskilled traveling construction laborers that work 70 hours / week will earn more than most OTR drivers with professional license and certification?

the suggestion about Epes was a good one.

I used to work there, left because of the freight lanes.

    I don't like the northeast.

maint. was good. money was not bad at all.

ask "Flyingmusician" , he works there.

lol yeah if you don't mind the close quarters hand to hand combat that is the northeast it's not a bad gig. We just got a bump in our NE bonus to .10/mile to run up there too. Doesn't make me like running up there any better but at least they do throw us a bone for doing it.

But, if you don't like running NE you'll hate life here lol
