The difference between you and I Rick is simple really. I don't work on a clock. I am a small business owner and I am out here to provide for my family. If I want to sit for 2 hours and enjoy a half assed meal then why shouldn't I be able too do so? To you I will say wave next time you pass a diner and when I get done chowing down I will wave back as I pass you and your governed truck. Take it easy.

Here's a little info since someone thinks I'm being pushed.

Was on home time in OKC. They call me with my load info. Picks up Monday at 1am at our Cactus plant. Going to Norcross, Ga. So Saturday night I call the plant. Is the load ready. YUP. So since my wife was leaving to go to work and do her 12hr shift at the VA. Sunday morning . I was like I'll go pick up the load Sunday morning. Got home almost at the same time she did. Was an hour behind schedule because the trailer I picked up had a nail and had to get fixed. Load doesn't deliver until Wednesday at 1300. So I'm back home by 9pm Sunday. Wife has to work Monday morning 8hr shift, and then she goes to school after that for her masters degree. So she won't be home till about 9pm or 10. I have plenty of time on load, but knew I would need to leave probably b4 midnight. So I just went to work Monday morning and headed to GA.

Run non stop from OKC to Tupelo MS loves. Logged 9hr. 25min. Take a 10 get up at 3 something in the morning and head to Norcross. Arrive at receiver. 9:55 est. Load is not due until 1300 Wednesday. Call check in and let them know I'm in the lot. Get a call at 6pm est Tuesday, and back into the door. Unloaded 30 minutes later. Next load is being brought to me from Florida so I wait at receiver until Wednesday to relay with driver going to Ankeny, IA that delivers at 5am on Friday.

He came at 10est Left there drove to. Loves in Williamsville, IL with 7 minutes left on my 11. NO parking but the street had parking. So parked there. Did my 10. Got to Ankeny, IA at 2pm cst on Thursday. Checked in went back to truck. Got a call about 7pm back into a door. An hour later I'm back in the lot empty. Waiting for next pp. Don't get a pp till friday at 1pm, and its the current load I'm on. Didn't need to be picked up till 5am Saturday so might as well knock out a 34.

I been doing this 2 long. Nobody pushes me. I push myself more then anything. I've never been the type to trash around at every truck stop. I laugh at the guys who pass me 3 times in less then 200 miles. I have a phobia of some sore about getting off an on the highway. So I try to limit how many times I have to get off. I normally start the day with a litter of diet mountain dew or regular dew, a bag of skittles or some blow pops, and I'm good until my 11 hours is about up. If I have to fuel I'll stock up on some more snacks then. If not I better have enough, because Betsy say's once she get's rolling she doesn't like me tappin on those breaks. Kid Dino Mite is OUT

Oh ya doing a split break now 120 miles from shipper Only had an hour left so I stopped and got some good ol Taco Bell and now i'm sure my 2 hr break is about up so guess I'll be getting my Roll on shortly. G day sir's

Yup, it really sucks running a little over 1800 miles in 3 days , making over $850 then spending a night home and finishing the week doing an overnight run that pays another $300.
Yes , I'm retiring . I didn't work over 40 years paying Social Security to work until I dropped and never get anything back out of it .
"Pushed" to drive an A/C , power steering , airride truck over 600 miles of smooth interstate . LOL . Today's drivers couldn't handle 400 miles dealing with the trucks and roads of the '70's. Some of them can't handle 400 miles now unless they get a midday break.

I think it's more about how they're paid. The guys paid on a cpm basis have to run as many miles as possible... thus the bragging about how many miles the run. That doesn't have anything to do with whether you're logging electronically or on paper. Agreed, most owner-ops do not NEED an electronic log book, but that's not the point.

Congress has already put the requirement for all commercial vehicles to have electronic logging of some sort into law- it's written into MAP21. That gives FMCSA the legal authority to put it into a rule making- and I've heard it's in the works for this year. It's about HOW it's going to be implemented now, and if you don't want one of the dang things in your truck, you'd best be writing your representatives.

If they're "stalking and monitoring" you, it's because you work for a crap carrier. My outfit (we all know which one) doesn't have the time for that. It only becomes an issue when a driver can't manage to make his appointments on time.

BTW, I've got a better home-run load than you do, but I wouldn't want you to wet yourself in a pissin' match. :biggrin_2559:

Nothing forces any driver to push except for poor judgement. Choosing to drive impaired is on the driver 100% of the time.

Driving 600 miles a day is absurd to me. I'm a short timer in this industry so my point of view is different than many. I won't even go much over 500 miles unless there is something in it for me i.e. getting home.

    Dinomite and landstar8891 Thank this.
