New International A26 12.4L Engine

    If they made a big bore for the HX 520 i’d Be willing to try it out. I have a 5900 with an isx and Scania is all over the fuel system. I’d love one of those big scania v8’s. But, I doubt they will do that

    I saw a YouTube video with the CEOs of Navistar and VW Truck and Bus together and they said that by 2021 there will be a lot of changes. The two applying to me would be the fully integrated power train and more engine models based off the A26 platform. I’m pretty confident they’ll bring over the MAN D38 but configure it, as they did with the A26, and design it for the NA market and simplicity. Anything to save people that want a 15L from having to buy Cummins, I welcome it, I think Cummins is way overrated.

    Mine has been alright. It has it quirks and requires different maintenance than in times past. It’s not been bad over all just different. But in my application 1750 tq is a little lacking. It could be done with 1750, just prefer a little more.

    Being a long time International fan, driver and owner I hope that this all does work out for them. Becvause I too am not a fan of the latest Cummin's. I have tried an X15 but the Signature and ISX have not been any good to me. I sure miss my CT powered International's.

    I wonder why they didn't give us 1850 torque with the A26? Everyone else can make 1850 with 12 and 13 litre engines.

    Dear God, NO!!! The complexity and difficulty to work on is bad enough with an inline 6. Only a glutton for punishment would even give a thought to having a modern, emissions laden V8 in a class 8 truck.

    The one way that does look interesting and I am waiting for when one of the OEM's brings it out is the Opposed Piston Opposed Cylinder (OPOC) engine. That is a real interesting design. 1/3 fewer internal components. 1/3 the weight of a similar power inline diesel motor. Modular in that it can have banks of cylinders added. Those banks could be engaged and disengaged depending on power demand. No valve train, no cams. Two cylinders in which 4 pistons operate opposing each other. Electrical driven turbocharger that can eliminate turbo lag. Very low profile, low center of gravity, cylinders are horizontally opposed.

    Commer did that back in the '50's..
    Were very popular here in Australia right up until the early 70's.

    My salesman told me the Eaton Endurant is now available with the A26. It’s not officially announced yet but, if you walk into a dealer today, it’s in their software as an option to order.

    If I was looking at the A26 in an LT, I would be inclined to look at the Allsion TC10 for a trans. I drove a truck with an Allison up in Alaska as a test trial back when I lived there in the 80's. it was a remarkable trans. If I was looking at going with an auto shift, I would have to go with the Allison. A true torque converter style transmission and ten forward gears.

    You can get the TC10 with the A26. If things keep going like they are, I’d do that in the future , in addition to a downsped spec.
