What’s a good way to pay my guys/ keep them happy and make money? Percentage or cpm or set weekly pay? 20%, .40 per mile, 1500 a week?? Also I’m not able to offer benefits yet I’m in the process of, down the road for sure but can’t right now.

Just out of curiosity, how long have you been in this business? Those questions and numbers make me wonder just what your industry knowledge level is.

There's A LOT that goes into the pay question. As an experienced driver with a clean record I won't touch anything for less than $1,500/wk. More if I am home less than 2 days a week. Of course, that's with benefits. Add 40% to that for a no benefit job.

If you're more flexible with your hiring requirements (convicts, trainee drivers, SAP, tickets/accidents/incidents) you can probably pay less, but pay more to insure your drivers. Pay varies by region as well. In the PNW most jobs for experienced drivers start around $30/hr.

Thanks for a legit answer. I’m based out of Texas and I’m paying a couple of guys 1,500 a week to run the trucks 5 days a week. The average gross is between 5,550-6,500. After fuel, insurance, truck payments, and random repairs I feel like I made a mistake on how much I’m paying. Hopefully it will change for the better once the IFTA stickers come in.

You better hope the rates don't nose dive, you won't have to worry about paying drivers.
