Another little update:
Turned up the fuel pump a couple times and wound up with the rack screw in the glove box and the AFC deleted. It will run over 550 Cats and 600 ISX's all day long. On a long hard pull like Homestake the pyro will eventually climb to 1000° when the water starts pushing 200° when it's hot outside. Thinking about trying a 177148 or 78/1.58 switchblde turbo.
Turns out I have a small bearing RTO 12513 - shelled out the input bearing after a couple thousand miles of 100K pounds.
Found a retarder for it and will hopefully scare up an 18 speed for reasonable.
On another note, I'm not sure how 1693 got their reputation for bad fuel economy. My truck governs at 75 MPH under full load and if it's not on the governor it's on the brakes. Rack screw is in the glove box and it will black out the noon day sun.
Just pulled a tractor out of Wyoming - weighed 45k going down empty and ran 80 mph the whole way. Was 80k coming home with the aerodynamics of a brick (possibly worse) and was running flat out all the way. One mountain pass each way.
Trip average was 5.2 MPG gps verified. Have pulled several loads of hay up to 105k pounds and have never got under 4.5. Only time I got a 3.9 was hauling grain out of the field when I had more idle time than drive time.
New to me 1693 Cat - looking for upgrades
