If you don't know how it works, call the company and have them teach you, it is their responsibility to make sure you know how it works. Everything YOU do is your decision to do it.

You guys are running your day by your logs when YOU plan your day around your hours and not the day around the log. What I mean is you are overly dependent on the log to tell you how to plan your day when it is a recording device of your day.

You all need to learn how to plan the route, know your times and then run with it at a steady pace. Don't rush if you are late, call the company and tell them "I'm late adjust the time" and keep moving legally. When you plan the route, plan on stopping near your tenth hour of driving, not near you eleventh and then stop and park.

Lepton is completely entirely egregiously wrong with this logging off at the stop sign before the truck stop or shipper nonsense.
Ignore him unless you have lots of money to give away.

As you can tell from the responses most driver do not understand the HOS reg's. Go to drivers daily log . com and download a free copy of the software, you can work on different scenarios till you figure it out in your own head. It will show you immediately when your in violation. excellent learning tool, always installed it on to students computers to learn from.

I don't use my laptop for logs. The company I drive for, uses the crappy PeopleNet. When it goes down, I use paper logs.

He does have a point,it can take a half hr to a good 45 minutes to find a place to park.I would'nt log off at a stop sign but I would put myself on line 1 the second I enter the parking lot.

I said this in another post I wouldn't log off at a stop sign,it could take a few minutes if on elogs, reaching for the QUALCOMM then finding your HOS maybe pissing the traffic off behind you.Besides if the destination is close from the stop sign it would only take a couple minutes to get there. But once I enter the lot log off duty park it then log line 4 do post then back off duty or sleeper.

guess that one went right over your head. :biggrin_25519:

my laptop dies, i find a walmart or bestbuy and buy a new one. like most everyone else does when their electronics die.

laptops are cheap. and most times can be found for around $200.

If I went that route, I would have two laptops in my truck. It isn't always convenient to stop, and go shopping.
