Unless you just got off the boat, then I hear it's a piece of cake.

I dunno guys. My CDL was downgraded while I was away. ( 11 years ) But as soon as I got my physical, I went over the the DMV and it was good to go immediately. The only endorsement that I lost was Hazmat.....obviously.
Is this a state to state thing? I am in Virginia.

As far as trucking companies go...... I am still getting calls from recruiters asking if I would be willing to go through refresher training.

Not sure, I posted all of that yesterday and when I got home NC had sent me a Class C License and did away with my CDL. Seems the waiver I signed here in Monroe did not make it's way to Raleigh. A trip to the website, a phone call and a fax and I am back in business, just gotta go down and pay $10 to get my duplicate CDL. That saved me about $1500 and 6 weeks. All I have to do now is take a 40 hour refresher. Pick up is paid off in November, save my payment money for a few months, and by late next spring, God willing, I will be back to trailer trucking.

Be prepared for a big shock! Trucking has changed a whole bunch since you drove in 2000. You won't recognize it anymore. Have you decided what type trucking you want? Freymiller hires drivers with a long gap in driving and a few others do also.

Yea, been talking to Vickie. I am 8-10 months from switching, making my plan and saving some money. Out of all the OTR companies I have drove for I had the most time at Freymiller, so that is where I want to go. I am definitly switching back to driving, I am about burnt out with cable.

Freymiller has a very good reputation even today, so you'll be a good fit there.
Hopefully, they accept the refresher and probably will from you. Freymiller will probably be very glad to have you return. Good move on your part and welcome back to trucking.

Vickie is very helpful. She is the one that told me since I have not drove in over 10 years I would need a refresher, cost around $1800 around Charlotte. I am sure I am rusty as far as the actual driving part goes, but with a little practice I think I will be fine. The paperwork, e-logs, new regulations is what I am going to have to study.

Yep, I registered on here a while back, but just started researching in depth recently. I was very used to the old ways , 3 or 4 log book shuffle, etc. I think I could still make money at it even with all the new regulations, I just have to learn how to make it look as legal as possible, kinda like I did the old way too. Anyway, it looks like it will be a challange, so that will make it interesting.

A lot off drivers are upset with the new rules.
What they forget is that in trucking the rules have allways changed and will change again in the future.
The "trick" is to get the most out off the rules.
    That's why knowledge=power.
The "game" will allways be played, just the way we play is/has/will changed.
