    Just to prove my point..
For one week slow your truck down 5mph and do it honestly..See how much fuel you save..It dont cost a thing doing that.....
If you cant do approx 4000 mi a week and still make pick up and del on time then your keepin the left door open to much..

go head n buy one, run one, then come back. You ain’t in a position to tell people running a business how they should: when you aren’t. Run 4K a week? that’s that “I have no idea to run an effective business” business model.
“I run it like it’s my own” means so much more than “I drive slower”
Last time I figured, fuel accounted for 8% of my annual revenue. If I slow down 15mph and get it to 7.9% of revenue, while missing deadlines and showing up after closing hours; losing accounts and displeasing customers- pretty soon I’d be in a company truck giving advice on the internet regarding things I didn’t know anything about.

    Never said i knew business..
Didnt say slow 15 mph either but thats roughly 1.5 mpg..
If you need to do mega miles to make ends meet then your business plan need work. ..
I slowed my trk down, get paid more and enjoy more home time..I easily make all my pick up and del done with time to spare...
I dont need to be mr super trucker with the 5ft shifter with a ton of chrome n lights doin 80 mph and stop at every 2nd trk stop tryin to impress the ladys..

I have no desire to buy a trk cause i get enough work to pay for my home that i bought 2 yrs ago and do 50 thou in upgrades, paid for my 2 motorcycles one of which is a track bike, paid for my pick up .....
Guess what,in 5 yrs when your trk is worth maybe $20 thou my house will be worth more..
So tell me why i should buy a trk???

Hey if you enjoy struggleing with rates and low mpg, dusty wallet power to ya cause i could care less..
My suggestion about slowin 5 mph will cost you that much then maybe your in bad shape...
    Have a good weekend..

If fuel is cheap it just means you make that much more in fuel alone..
Your trk do what you feel is best for your business

While I feel your pain and I am definitely on the side of owner operators not hauling cheap freight, the problem many owner operators are currently experiencing in this free market economy is completely supply verses demand. The supply of available trucks is currently up and the demand IE(available loads) is down. Do what you need to do but, the people who see your protests can do little to raise your rates. My freight which is contract freight has been 100% dead for 7 weeks now and no end in sight. My truck has been parked rather than haul the currently cheap spot market freight and will be until my contract freight returns. Not terribly long ago I came off of my contract freight briefly to haul some spot market freight and I tore their heads off with crazy money rates. Now the tables have turned so I sit. Good luck with whatever you do and freight rates will come back as demand does.
