i-phone has a couple of apps:

BigRoad Free Truck Driver Log (rated 4.5 stars out of 5)

Few other apps but not rated as high.

I have a friend leased to Packard an all owner operator company. They ask you to go with elogs but do not force you to unless you keep screwing up the paper logs. My friend is about 65 years old and was terrified of elogs they forced him to go on elogs and he loves them now,but they stick with what they preach. If you run out of time 1 mile from your pick or delivery you stop none of this well we have to take care of our customer or do it as personal conveyance crap, now I am all for that.

The back office systems are expensive plus office training. I haven't heard of any company allowing an O/O to use a different system. Typical charge for system is in the $15-$20 per week. I haven't even seen companies that are switching to them to charge extra over what they charged for just a Qualcomm rental.

Personal Conveyance only can be used when empty and/or not under dispatch, even knowledge of your next dispatch will disallow the PC. WA for example, wont recognize PC unless you are bobtail, they consider the trailer (even empty) as part of a load.

There are a bunch of ELog apps out there, just search the app store or Google Play for them but ELog apps are not the same as an EOBR. An EOBR is tied into the trucks ECM and transmits data back to the carrier automatically, an ELog app does not.

As BigBadBill pointed out, if a company is requiring the use of an EOBR they will tell you want one you have to use. You will not be able to substitute it by using an Elog app or a different EORB as the one they want you to use needs to be able to transmit the data back to the software running at the office.
