Think of it this way, you could use your laptop with a simple program to tuneup a new car, now, let me give you a condenser, a set of points and metering jets for the carb, for an old car, let me know how you make out.

Ah, the old style points under the distributor cap. Need a ignition big and beefy as well as fast to handle the load. Tach used to bounce around when the points got worn as a early warning...(Steward warner model, induction sensor..) Slap a new point set on adjusted and go.

Actually......you want the one that never works or is broken all the time.

You get 8 days to fix it. So run on paper 8 days. Go home. Get it fixed.

Head out again and #### thing breaks again. 8 more days of paper logs.

So which ELD is the biggest piece of junk?

    That's the one I'm buying.

IF this thing ever actually becomes a real mandate. I'll give CMV enforcement about a month or two to figure what systems malfunction regularly, and that drivers can abuse or misuse or easily screw up. Then between those and the old POS trucks and paper loggers, they'll be having a field day for months on end. Will be like shooting fish in a barrel.

But, I'm sure there will be at least a 6 month "grace" period where most problems will go un-ticketed.

    A month or two.....lol

Those CMV guys wont have a clue for a long time. Most haven't been trained yet and the older ones dont even want to mess with an ELD.

I average about one inspection a year.....opppssss...its broke. Sorry....here is paper logs until I get it fixed.

E LDs will be no problem. Paper logs will be around a long time.

surely it can't be any harder than using a qualcom or tablet? or better still than operating a truck? Or is it really that their worried about not being able to drive off the books?

Technology should be a breeze to our younger adults these days. It's the People inside a trucking company who hate to spend any kind of money that are going to create a problem with ill fitting computer systems that will not function as well as it could.

I sure everyone know you have 8 days to fix you broken ELD and I don't think they will mess up that much. Their are no moving parts in ELD. It just a simple computer program. If the ELD is broken you just push the reset button and it takes maybe 2 minutes to restart. Qualcomm has a 5 year warranty on their ELDs so the are built pretty good.

They are said they will write tickets just won't place drivers out of service. So if you ok paying the tickets then I guess that could be a grace period. The law was passed 2 years ago so everyone had 2 years to get ready.

    More if you are VDO.
    They have experience since 06.
But if that is a good thing?
