I see some are in the same gear as us, but some folks, Rambo types mostly, got to be agitators. I've seen 1st hand, how a belligerent attitude, just gets them deeper in the hole. I always treated an officer with respect, did what they asked, and I was on my way, while the "Big Man" is still making things worse. Like they get off on that. I swear, some of you people are so stupid, no wonder cops are on high alert all the time.

Somehow this subject has morphed into DOT officers waking drivers up to do inspections. This has happened, but it is a rare thing today. Cops generally don't have a lot of time to harass drivers. A legally parked truck is just that, legally parked. If a cop wakes you up before getting angry and calling the marshals* just ask what's up! I bet over 90% of the time the cop had/has a good reason to knock. If the said cop is a legit Richard then that's different.

    * Sorry, but I can't resist adding this!

The police officer must have a legit reason to knock on your cab that being said yes you should open the door and see what he/ she wants, they should also be aware that you are sleeping and at least give you some time to wake up, unless of course your truck matches the description of a reported crime than I don't think they'll be in a co- operative mood.

Well, technically any cop should have cause to make contact with the public. Cops take classes on how to do this. As I stated, cops have more important things to do than harras a trucker trying to rest! This is the crux of this entire thread. If a cop is knocking you need to find out why!

The legal reason is you are in a CMV and they are going to do an inspection. No more is needed.

    Are you parked legally?
Once in a while you might get a knock on the door from some idiot that thinks he needs to do an inspection on a CMV.

If you park on an off ramp, ir in some random parking lot then you messed up. expect the knock.

Police can approach somebody or knock on a door without any reason what so ever. Until they detain u they dont need a reason.

Those same cops can make your day HELL if you motivate them to it. When you come from the sleeper keep you’re eyes squinted like if you’re just waking up roll the window down and ask what’s going on and try not to be a prick.
